Yep! But getting shorter:
Bleed brakes
Finish wires to new dash
Sort wheels out very soon
Collect trailer!
Tweek seating position to somewhere a bit more comfortable (limited scope)
Get car to McClurg Motorsport for alignment
Get car to HiTech for webers to be sorted or junked
Paint nose of the body now it is getting warmer
Clean the thing all over again! (Forth Bridge job...)

Well done Graham, I'm shocked to hear that you didn't have the butterflies open fully at full throttle. Surely it's the first thing Bob Watson should have checked, especially when he commented on the lack of power.

Lost about 20 deg of the rotation.
In all fairness Bob prob ran the engine off the carb 'cross bar' as opposed to the pedal, but I now have full rotation.
If it goes the way it did on 200 bhp, heaven help me with more...
I will have to learn to be a racing driver soon

Special getting closer

Hi Graham/Gary,
I've volunteered for cleaning duty (or anything else), I am available at weekends - when would suit you ?

Keeping this thing clean is a full-time dedication!
When its been raced in the wet it is hard, when it has been trailered in the wet you become suicidal..
Living with a 911 is much easier.
So, with this pair I am loopy.

The car is all back together, and I cannot actually find anything else to do to it today!
It and my 'new' trailer are ready for the suspension alignments next weekend (McClurg Motorsport) and the car will be left there all week.
I can finish off the repair to the front body before collection....
That should be 'fun'
When back it will be off to Hitech for the webers to be set-up and I hope an end to the stupid bangs and pops I suffered last year.
Finally a fresh set of hillclimb soft slicks (at a cool £1026 a set!)..
Hope they last me till I retire from this silly game.
Funny how you miss things to do when checking your own work, but I've noticed the rear pads do not fully 'cover' the discs by 3 mm.
Some more lunch-time machining this week.
Got my wheels back (the ultra rare Dymags) from Ian Jemison and they are perfect. All for £150 + Gordon's slice the pair.
So, from thinking I was behind the game I feel far in front.
Wonder how I will feel about the game after the rollers and the webers?

Further progress this weekend, and the End is in Sight.
Reluctantly, I deceided to have the suspension set-up by a pro. I do like to tackel most jobs myself, but after the off at Loton and the less wayward run at Shelsley I entrusted the job to McClurg Motorsport run by Sean, an old hillclimb and now HRCC driver and prep specialist.
He has dialed in a friendly chassis but advised that htere are much more tweeks to go to have a nervey but sharp chassis!
I will try the friendly version this year than you.
White the chassis was awy, I finished the body off where it hit the wall while I was a passenger.
I had no chance of matching the gel-coat Red of the body, so elected to decorate the damage with a heavy disguise.
The races last year gave me a taste of a windy ride with a lot of buffeting to the helmet. A flyscreen I'm told will fix this, so I've added one and decorated that too with our favorite symbol.
The final step soon then: tuning the Webers.
I will give HiTech a go as they are local and come with good recommendations from those on here and others.
Time will tell if they can get rid of the pops and bangs. I just want a trouble-free smooth quiet engine with about 225 of both please.

Hope it's driven as well as it looks !!
No pressure, Graham

I doubt it will be well driven!
Best leave that to the Fast Bloke from Cornwall...
I shall content myself with a few cruises up the hills and be happy to make it to the top and use all the gears!
At least it sounds nice.
On the next run after this I left the track and kissed the wall.....takes me back to my first sentence!

got it to actually run tonight after heating the plugs on the cooker and refitting pdq!
Car splutted into life after 30 secs of churning and the tick-over was just great, smooth and very mellow.
Of course the pops and big bangs started after a few mins of warming up from one bank with some impressive flames to boot.
Took the silencers off and that sounded good till the first atomic explosion again repeatedly.
Killed the engine and called it Good Night.(actually called it a lot worse than that....)
So, it bangs when warming up.
Rollers next week.
I realy am thinking the play in the spindle(s) is too great and air entry is right there. Will restart when cold and grease the shaft ends to 'seal' the shafts. See if that fixes it for a while longer.
Arrrgggge!

That's the strange noise Margie heard 45 min ago then!
What a pain
Best wishes,

How annoying.
There is a very quick way to prove the presence of any air leaks at idle..just spray some (any) hydrocarbon around the suspect area..
If the revs don't rise, no leaks.
did the pipes all get hot?
Kind regards
David

I'll try what you say David.
When cold just after it got on all 6 it hummmed at about 1000 rpm so very well, sounded really good and rock steady, no faltering or up-n-down hunting and after a minute the first bang arrived with a vengence, an explosion realy.
I still have the teflon 'bearing' repair leaves from the repair kit which I didn't fit as all the spindle assy has to come out to get the berings out that they twist in behind, so that is butterflies out and those pesky peened-over screws.
Years ago I tried to fix the spindle play on my old webers on my 2.2T and it was all an absolute nightmare.
So:
It starts
It runs great cold
It starts to bang (on one bank/one cylinder) after a minute or so
It does not go away.
Both silencers were equally warm, so expect the 6 are all working
I can't believe inside a minute the engine got particularly warm and the garage was certainly cold so the carbs saw no real heat rise at all
Should add checking the spark from the HT lead and plugs showed a spark like my arc welder!
This really frustrating, and I'm all but ready to buy a set of 46mm PMO's or go injection and run the car for 1/2 the season 2010 which was not the plan.

If you say it's one bank/cylinder have you tried pulling the leads off in turn whilst it's idling and banging?
It will obviously misfire, but if the explosions are in one cylinder the absence of spark should calm things down and maybe narrow down the problem?
Does it pop through the exhaust of is it spitting back through the carbs?
Without being a doom monger (too much!) you don't have a bent or poorly seating valve do you?
