Nick is right. My car is currently too low and needs raising by 1 inch in the rear. The car takes bumps well. Any lower, you will have speed bump problems.

Your car is probably bouncing off the bump stops and may have destroyed the shock valves. The rear Konis, which did something like 5K miles, were not destroyed. This was more luck than design.

Looks like a full suspension overhaul is on the cards for my car

you can kind of see how low my car is here (lemans 2004). The blue 'E' of Nigels was also set very low

Difficult to tell from the photographs just how low the car is. As you noted, Nigel's car appears low.

I was out for a quick blast last night, and ride height, shocks, torsion bars etc all work together. If you do the job, do it right !!

I had this love / hate relationship with my car for 30 years. Finally I did the work and the car is a real pleasure to drive. As noted in previous posts, it drives like new.

Whats a good ride height for an early car running 15's im just about to set my ride height following a full suspension overhaul with elephant racing bush's and 26mm T Bars on the back, it was previously at about 25.5 inch from floor to arch and looked like it was ready to go on safari?

bruce andersons 'porsche 911 performance' handbook states the same , 25" at the rear & 25 .5 " at the front giving a 1 degree rake.

No mention of what wheel / tyre diameter they are working on though

When I visited the San Diego Porsche club event last december at Qualcom stadium, I chatted with a chap from a Porsche shop in San Diego who set up one of the faster 911s. He said that the quoted set up did not matter, nor did the wheels and tires. For him the 1 to 1.5 Degree forward rake (that is how I understood the set up) was all that mattered despite the height settings. My car needs about one more degree of forward rake to make it proper. With the front and rear suspension adjustments, you can revise the settings to whatever you want.

So how much height from the recomended can you lose for asthetics without compromisisng handling and ride too much?

This is 25.5" fr / 25" rr on 185/70 x 15

Its strange ive just been looking at pictures of paul's 2.4s from his thread on the build and his tyres seem alot more planted inthe arches to say his ride height is similar to mine, would the fact that im using 65 profile not 70 make much difference? Also in the pics of my car im comparing to I only had 5.5 inch fuchs which are set further back in the arch this is probably also making them not seem to fill the arch as much. I think to start with ill set the ride height back to 25.5 front and 25 rear and try it with my newly refurbed 6's and see what they look like.

Don't worry how the car looks, just worry about how great it will drive. The 185/70s should be roughly the same as 195/65s in overall size.
