For £250 a full set of Conti's delivered, Think they're great. If you get them, you'll laugh at how skinny they are compared to modern porker tyres.

I have seen SWB's on skinny tyres and I think they look fine. I think the CT22 tread pattern looks very nice.busybee wrote:If you get them, you'll laugh at how skinny they are compared to modern porker tyres.
The Conti tyres might be cheap, but they wont handle as well as the Pirelli on a car of your age.busybee wrote:I’ve just bought a set of 4 continentals 165/80/15 from camskill. Just over £250 delivered. They look so skinny! Very period

XAS on an Elan would be great. I have had XAS on a few cars. I have an earlier Elite on Cinturato and they are fantastic. I'm currently trying to sell it https://paulmattysportscars.co.uk/lotus-elite-type-14/ because i have bought a racing Elite instead. But what a beautiful handling car.912Flyer wrote:I have a set of the 165 CN36's and am very pleased with them. I originally had modern 195 Contis on the 912 and in comparison the 165's feel better balanced and due to the profile of the tires the steering feeling has really improved.
I got stuck in a storm and they ran very well through standing water which is probably helped through their rounded profile as opposed to the flat modern conti's that I did have fitted.
There is quite a good article on an historic post on the performance of the Pirellis against Michelins, Blockleys and Conti Classics which helped me to decide. Is your car worth spending a grand on tyres? - to me, yes because I rag it around at full pelt. I was sold on Classic Tyres when I put Michelin XAS FF on my Elan and they utterly transformed the car.
Really. You're the experts. What will be the difference? I run Conti's on my SC and 3.2 and like them a lot. For this 90hp when new car, I'm not sure I could tell the difference.Dougal Cawley wrote:The Conti tyres might be cheap, but they wont handle as well as the Pirelli on a car of your age.busybee wrote:I’ve just bought a set of 4 continentals 165/80/15 from camskill.
