Nice move Neil. Like that blue. Can’t wait to hear how it drives.

First fun this morning. Car doesn't have a historical status with the DVLA. I have to take the log book (when it arrives) to the post office

Just a quick note to wish Neil all the best giving 'GELly' a bit more TLC. Hopefully we will all get to see her taken to the next level at some of the long anticipated 2021 events!

Grandson Cayman waved her off on Sunday...

Bit of fettling this afternoon. The boot lid doesn't sit right. I tried to adjust the latch but I think I made it worst. The bad left/right edges are too high. Any ideas?

Assuming that the boot lid is straight and square, adjust the angle with spacer washers under the hinge bolts

Next the gear selection isn't working. Not sure I've found first yet. I've never adjusted gears before. I looked at the gearbox and saw 3 different cables going in but couldn't find any diagrams in the books that came with the car. Anywhere online I can look?

Can you get reverse OK? If so, you may only need to adjust the length of the shift rod to get 1st. If in doubt, best to get someone who knows, like Angus to sort it, it's much easier to make it worse than improve it!

The Targa top at the rear on the drivers size is seating too high. This means there is a small gap between the window and seal. There is a pin that should be pulled down by a hoop from the latch but it isn't moving the top down much. It took quite a lot of work just to get it on
Check that the roof seals are properly in place and that the roof sits evenly before you fasten it.

The Speedo isn't working. It tweaks but that is it?

Pull out the speedo and disconnect the cable. Check that the cable turns smoothly as the car moves. that will narrow it down to the cable or angle gear on the gearbox, or the speedo itself.

I changed the oil and it took less than 3l. I didn't undo the B filter bolt.

????

Car is idling rough and low that maybe lack of use. I'm new to injection cars but will try to do a tune up

Once again, if you don't know about K-jet, it's best left to someone who does!

I'm allowed to have classic reg plates on this car?

Yes, we have B & W plates on our L reg (though 1970) 914/6

There is certainly a charm about how simple these cars are. Feels more like a sports car than my 356
They are quirky, but addictive little cars. Yours looks really smart from the photos, I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Cheers

JW

After a while driving the 914, you'll soon come to see how overrated 911s are...

Must admit to being a bit envious of that Blue One!
the recent pic of the lowered/slammed 914 in the USA with GT flares on the rear, wheels to match looked so good.

Busy assembling some cool stuff to take Tango 914 to the next level,
Keith is right - they are an absolute hoot to drive- and I have a 260 hp 911 hotrod and a 924 race car on Webers to compare!

Sorry in advance to stretch this topic, but when I test drove my 2009 Boxster the mid engine layout and the dynamics that come with that configuration was very apparent and really nice to drive even at moderate speed in corners.
Does the 4 pot 914 deliver the same sensation?

If you copy it out long hand then read it back tomorrow it'll make more sense.

Congrats on the new motor.
