Been a while since I updated this thread, I was finally able to pay a visit to the body shop a couple of weeks ago, unfortunately at this moment in time I do not have any pictures of the shell when it came back from the blasters, these will follow shortly, but from my visit I was pleased to see a lot of good progress. compared to the 67 car I restored a few years back this shell was significantly better.

the lower couple of inches of the car was toast, the rest was all pretty solid apart from the internal rear qtr panels which need a little work. Overall very pleased with the shell and how its turning out.

One issue we did find was around the torsion tube, on inspection it looked like at some point a new torsion tube was installed but one of the brackets had been slightly modified, only thing we could think of was due to a bent rear trailing arm. anyway the torsion tube was removed and repaired.

Roy who is working on my car is a true craftsmen, he is now into his 70s and still passionate about what he does. we spent an hourt or so going through some of the changes i want to make to the car from rear wheel arches to modifying the bonnet for inclusion of an off centre petrol tank.


With the shell being in the condition it is i am hopeful it will be finished in Dec and then off to the paint shop. More pictures will follow after my next visit in a month or so.

Finally received a few picture of the car after blasting, as the picture show the bottom of the shell was in a bad way, the whole floor was cut out before blasting as it was resembled swiss cheese.

It didn't take long for Chestertons to get to work, there is a definite art to having to make fairly significant repairs to these shells. have to say Chestertons make it look easy.....

I mentioned as part of my last update that the torque tube was removed due to a number of reasons, well around 40 hrs of work was needed to remove, repair and the re-install and replace various panels.

Was able to pop over to the body shop earlier in the week, and I am glad to say we are on the home stretch, around 3 weeks and the shell will be ready for paint. The rear of the car is progressing nicely, doors, A and B pillars are all sorted.

Focus for the next 3 weeks will be the front end, rear R arches, rear bumpers and installing the roll bar. And finally final fit up and lead work...

Oil lines have been installed, again the lines we had needed a significant amount of work, all now installed, pressure tested and ready to go:

rear arches will go on next week, I found a set of fibre glass arches which are meant to be pretty close to period correct arches which would have gone on the R and some T/Rs. I wanted to get a feel of what these will look like on the narrow body rear quarters...…..pretty good I think, these will be fabricated out of steel next week

Roll bar turned up when I was visiting the shop, the original shop who were meant to supply a period correct role bar without the diagnol bar let me down, so this one was purchased from carpoint, the diagnol will be removed as per the loops installed back in 1968.
