Now then; draw string waist slacks, hmmmm that's appealing, but at my age white is not a good colour.

Do they do them in Porsche Prostate Amber? Paint code L2 W1

Paper licence isn’t valid anymore is it? Weren’t they dropped a couple of years back?

Indeed, I have 5 more years to go before the new fangled plastic thing.
What happens now that plastic will be banned? Paper can be re-cycled easy!

Autonomous cars do not need people with Drivers' Licences...it all starts to add up!
I'll be 6 feet under when all this lot hits the street. :alien:

This is such a weird thing about Britain. It is like when you chat to Americans about guns.
I had two paper UK licences, as i got a replacement when i thought i lost my old one, so I have a clean licence and my old faithful. You don't need to have your licence on you when you are actually driving, just bring it to police station a week later to show another person and they will write on this using a ball point pen.
Question any of this and people are like Mel Gibson in Braveheart.
The car you own is insured only for you, they discount it on where you park it at night, your past 20 years of not using the thing you pay for and various other weird aspects they can grade your personal life on. As the value of some cars gets higher it isn't the cost of running the car, it is the insurance that overshadows it.

Now compare this to what I have now, Yes I need to have my licence on me when I drive. But I can drive anyones car, you can drive my car. The car insurance isn't crazy, less than what I paid in the UK.

by law you don't need to carry any id/drivers license in the car or on your person in the UK. Hence the 7 day producer.

apologies for the link......but its Friday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCPQZ1Le6dg

In some countries........you get fined if you don't have your id on you at all times. It can be a real pain in the backside.

I think you have a plastic licence to hire a car abroad.

You do here too I think, or at least you can’t just hire one with a paper counterpart, you have to give national insurance number and licence number so they can do an online DVLA check (or you can create an access code with the info and give them that)

Not true, you can hire a car home & abroad with a paper licence it's a valid document just the same as a plastic one

Graham, I'd be surprised if fuzz or border control would accept a photo copy of an important document like a license as they are too easy to alter.
I updated my road tax on line yesterday. The transaction was accepted in about 2 seconds. DVLA computer knew my car was insured and had
a current MOT. So why should I carry my MOT certificate with me ?
12 years ago I was pulled up for driving 37 MPH on a dual carriage way ! - Didn't know that max speed when driving within one mile towards a city centre
was 30 MPH unless otherwise indicated. License at home so needed a visit to office plod.
I was kept waiting for 45 minutes , sitting with junkies, tarts and drunks. Officer eventually sneered at me like I was a rapist.
Not a pleasant experience.
Yet the police advice is
" From a crime prevention point of view it is better never to leave your driving documents in your car and produce them within the 7 day period."
