As it's along my line of business, thought you might like to see some of our CNC turn/mill centres and Haas Machining centres.
The T70 Torx head wheel bolts are for a customer who's fitting wheel spacers to his Mclaren 675LT as he's not happy with the handling on track at the limit.
These we're machined complete on the Doosan 300M Turn/mill centre.

The bolts are manufactured from High Strength Titanium Grade 5 as the original wheel bolts just longer.

Watched the Youtube of making the coffee maker. Very cool. I am blessed with a lack of space and a complete lack of talent. And if I had the space, I think I'd do wood, not metal

Bought my Drummond A as it was small as all the bits I need are small!
Wish I had gone for a Myford 7 but good ones are hard to find, and the base can be big. I have very little room, 2 cars in a 2 car garage!
I have a Myford milling attachment for it too, but quite a contraption. Myford bought Drummond out not long after the war.

^^^ That's a nice looking bit of kit. Have you had to find any spares etc for it? Are they easily available?

It is all perfect!
It cost me £400 all restored from a small garage in the Lake District, really old school place.
Easy to get tools etc and it works fabulously, l love it and it has paid for itself over and over with the restorations love done recently.
It will take a few thou off reliably but not a heavy cut , but that is fine for me :bom: :bom:

That looks a lovely machine Graham, and in great condition.

I was watching a colchester student on eBay today - had to have a word with myself to stop me from buying it.

One thing I have been trying to pay attention to is safety - On one of the sites about lathes it said that most machines in the tool shop can easily cause you harm, but the lathe is actively trying to kill you. If it's too cold to work in short sleeves you don't work, and remove all rings and jewelry before you start if you want to leave the shed with all your fingers.

I even added somewhere to put my bling while I'm turning big bits of steel into chips

Harsh but fair - I added 2 more screws after spraying the black background.

As you can imagine, I don't mix screws in MY garage...black screws for black, silver for chrome, makes sense.

The safety side cannot be taken lightly.
Almost all engineering types who actually have or do use machine tools are 'ring-less' and the watch is in their pocket.
Safety glasses or clear eye protection is essential esp when turning brass.
And never leave the chuck key in the chuck....

At 16 I did my lathe training on a Colchester. It was brand new then and it was utterly fabulous.
The Bridgeport miller was new too and that was the best.
Just didn't realise it then as I knew no different.

Drummond made quite a range of lathes, the Model A was the basic round bed. Simple design, simple to manufacture and simple to use when you get used to the movements.
They even made a version mounted on a treadle frame (like an old sewing machine) with a sizable flywheel on the drive. That would be hard work but when there was no electricity, it must have been great.
