I actually saw this car a number of times as it was being put together......a lot of love, time and money went into the project.

Saw this fabulous looking 993 C2 today, unusual colour and 18" black Fuchs. Gorgeous! .....

Known that car for years was a north east car Dave carter from potto and George Dixon m/bro who sold it to dick lovers client for them to do it used to wear the George Foreman grill on its arse (tech art spoiler) I knew it was that car when you replaced your name picture

It was the interior which really cliched it for me. Originally the car came with marble grey leather, a strange combination with the blue I have to say. Fortunately the discerning owner had it all stripped out and redone in black nappa, with a beautiful light blue stitching detail. It was gorgeous, brand new and complete with the hardback Recaro's.







I was still going on Nigel's pictures so had seen no paperwork, but the interior looked like it could have only been the work of one man. I rang Dave Nunn and asked him if he had done it. I've always been a great admirer of Southbound's work having had lightweight carpets sets from them in the past, and the tartan Recaro's and steering wheel done by them for the Martini car. Sure enough he remembered it fondly, saying it was the one they liked the best of all their interiors, though I'm sure they say that to all their clients!

The only problem now was it was June, Brexit and summer holidays came and our negotiations stalled, suddenly the car wasn't for sale anymore and went back into the owners collection! Damm, looked like I'd missed it......

It was during delicate negotiations when you posted the pic of the Singer in the workshop there Darren, the Rivi car was next to it at a time when Lovett's were saying it wasn't there so I couldn't look at it....

It was pretty well known and has certainly done the rounds, it took HPI 3 weeks to trace all the reg plates!

Just to finish off tonight with a couple more of Mitch's pictures, he did a great job! As Ferry Man's finding out with his Mexico car these light blue colours seem to
change from one shot to the next, especially under changing conditions and artificial light, never known a colour like it.

So as the car was no longer for sale, back to the drawing board.

It was the beginning of September so prime car buying time but there was just nothing out there. Ok I was being specific about
colours and interiors, but the thought of spending 10k to change from marble grey to black leather of an already overpriced car
didn't really appeal.

So a couple I was considering at the time, firstly William Crawford had an RS rep which was interesting as it was advertised as a
Roock engined car. Michael Roock is a very experienced German engine builder who I'd met at Essen. The car had been for sale
with Grame Hunt in London for ages, not surprisingly really as they were asking high 90's for it! It went to Crawford and dropped
10k so still big money though. Made a few inquiries and it turns out the motor hadn't been built by Roock, just some Roock parts
used by an English workshop, so for me that's not a Roock engine. Bit like you putting a Ruf spoiler and wheels on a car and
calling it a Ruf. Not on their web-site now, but the YouTube vid is still up:

Then there was another RS rep at Border Reivers. I think it was 79K at the time, but that had a sunroof and washer jets to remove
so there's another 10k straight away. Still with the 3.6 motor so not a very accurate rep and it was yellow....... nice wheels though,
they say they're real.

In the back of my mind I still had hopes the Riviera car might come back up for sale again, but then in September the records
were smashed when RM sold the Riviera 993 GT2 for £1.8 million, twice it's estimate! Now a completely different kettle of fish
obviously, it's an incredibly rare and wonderful car, but the auction 'experts' still attributed a lot of the interest in the car to
it's rare colour.

That to me meant 'my' car would definitely go into hiding, never to be seen again!



So it was back to reality, and with my sensible hat on I thought again about a car I'd heard about earlier in the year. Can't
remember where I saw it but a lovely old boy in his 70's was selling a black with black C2 up in the Lake District. Chatted
on the phone with him and the usual story of asking way too much, but it sounded a great car, 52,000 miles and 3 owners
of which he was 2 of them! He bought it new, sold it some years later and missed it so much he bought it back.

When I got back in touch it had gone to a dealer, so still to expensive for me at 69k. Just checked now and it's still available
at 60k, with those miles and history it sounds a great car if you like black, having said that surprised it's not sold after all
this time, there must be a deal to be done there...

Funnily I expressed some interest in the car at Border Reivers too - but in my case the colour was one of the attractions !

However, I didn't really want a RHD car nor a sunroof & I didn't like the leather seats - plus it was too expensive ...

So this is where it gets really weird!

Autumn comes and goes and no sign of anything, the Ferrari's now gone and I'm armed with cash. I've been trawling all the usual web-site's, then looked at some
with cars for sale as well. Obviously places like Pistonheads, the specific Porsche forums, Porsche Club, 911uk, then the Classic Car web-sites and the known Porsche
classic dealers. I was wearing out the keyboard to no avail.

Then a couple of weeks before Christmas I though I'd give it one more go, has to be a good time for a deal as no one can be buying then surely. Did all the web-sites
again and nothing. I sat back thinking what else to do and for the first time in the whole search went onto AutoTrader. I put in Porsche, there's no 993 choice in model
so put in 911, go to variant, ah there's the 993's. In brackets it shows there are four Carrera's, pushed the button and yep you guessed it, up came the Riviera car!

It was at a McLaren dealer in the midlands, not very good pictures but definitely the same car, but mores to the point now at 'sensible' money, more C2S this time.
I was there first thing the next morning, I walked in up the stairs into the amazing first floor showroom and there was the car by the Christmas tree.

It was the first time I'd actually seen it in the flesh.



I said hello to the salesman, walked around the car to the passenger door to pop the engine lid. I walked to the back and glanced in the engine bay, then looked in
the drivers side door at the interior. It was at that point I handed my credit card to the guy and said I'd take it. It was going to be the easiest sale he'd had for a while.....



We sat in his office and did the paperwork, it was mine subject to an inspection. Drove home thinking that serendipity had struck again, it was meant to be!
