Yes Clive I stand corrected - the car was used for Autocross in the US or Sprints as we call them here, so yes a proper competition car albeit not set up for out-and-out circuit racing. Plan to keep the car in this guise, MOT it, and use in the odd hill climb here in NI and maybe the odd thrash around Ireland with friends!

I'd say DEFFO trash around Ireland - Pity you are missing the '77 Circuit of Ireland Special Stages this year ..........it will have to be ready for the '78 CoI SS run next year .......We can get the general and yourself to lead the posse !

Starting to form an idea of what I'm going to do with the car and therefore how I want it to look. The car was intended by Porsche to be used sportingly and many owners did just that and entered them into motor sport events as this car has been. I love all race cars, love the look, love what they do and don't want to lose that look with this one. I hope to use it for some local sprints and hill climbs as well as some tours - we'll see.......

Condition is still impressing me - yes its far from perfect but it's mostly sound so rather that restore the car I'm just going to recommission it and only tend to areas that need attention. So spec at this stage is, period half roll cage, perlon carpets, new headlining, repro seats (until i get some recaro S), paint what I need to cover the primer and some other small areas, sort out some very messing wiring.

If anyone has any ideas for the car - any pointers - thoughts, please let me know - I want this car to look right.

current 2.7 (911/85) motor will stay until the original 2.0l is rebuild with repaired crankcases - has the original Weber IDS 40's - will try to rescue with a rebuild kit just to get running.



showing its USA race heritage and repaired original sills and rear 1/4 panel lower edge.



Interior still showing most of the original sound deadening albeit with small areas removed for a roll cage. I plan to fit a period half cage to the rear only and replace/repair the missing sound deadening - need to find something suitable?



Floors are original - some holes from motor sport use - will probably re apply stone chip etc before re carpeting with a perlon carpet.



I'm out of the country for a few days but will put on the ramp and get some pics underneath over the weekend - lets hope it looks as good.....

You have the right direction on this car, re-commission, tidy/safety re-build. Doubt another looks like that paint scheme.

If the rear has the complimentary anti- roll bar to that front one then you sure will feel it on the road. (had the same ages ago on my 911 hillclimber. Faster up the hill with them disconnected.

Keep the photo's coming. It's refreshing to here that your retaining as much of the originality /character of the car. To many cars nowadays are being over restored.

The car is certainly eye catching, love it. Good luck with getting her back on the road

El Chucho spent about two years sat next to this 'S' in R-to-RSR's workshop. I looked at it regularly and thought what a great project it would be. Glad to hear you're going the 'sympathetic' route! It's a lovely car.

What about a Trans Am style car. Check out issue 21 of Classic Porsche. The red Trans Am in there is just about perfect if you ask me.

I've changed the thread title to cover the recommission - easier than starting a new thread.

Things are hotting up on all fronts with the 65 race car making it's début in 10 days time - so i've started on the 67S to get it up and running. The carbs did look very grubby and in need of some TLC. The weber rebuild kit is on it's way so carbs stripped and dipped in my ultrasonic cleaner for 30mins - what a difference - see below with cleaned carb in front of the rather dirty one! Best £70 i've spent (on the cleaner) as the cleaner is a small one I'm doing in batches - six dips need to do all parts for both carbs. Will get them hopefully rebuilt over the next few days.

I think I can just see the 'S' stamped on the body of the carb through the return spring.......

close up showing 40 IDS 3C - can't see many other factory markings

Carbs have had some work done on them in 1999 by Eurometrix in the USA. I have a receipt of the work that was carried out! Carbs carry some numbering by them as well as their EUROMETRIX stamp.
