Hi everyone,
Started to cut the side roll cage bars and trial fit prior to tac and weld. Whilst the bars take up a lot of room to get my 6ft frame into the seat, they provide additional safety and torsional strength. Also start to tie the rear engine mounts through to the front shock towers. Once these are tacked I will work out the position of the next cross brace bars to be added at the rear. Then just across the roof and down.
I changed the front rectangular cross brace originally tacked for a cut tube, will get a better weld at the end just difficult to weld the bar to the front steel bulkhead, first stab looks like it will work.
Thanks for looking

Hi, project still moving forward.
My mate picked up the 2.7 engine and a box of spare parts last night. He plans to strip and rebuild depending on state of it. Fingers crossed it's not bad or too expensive.
Does anyone know how to paint the plastic heat fan shroud

I guess clean, key and use some sort of heat resistant green paint.
Hope to see the engine back again before the end of the year but no guarantees. Back to the chassis

Chris Jury, scholar and gentleman did the artwork/ design. Should provide inspiration to get the job done. Stone grey looks more like Audi Nardo grey

Signed in... That's some high level barn-engineering you've got going on there, impressed!

Hello, Three days of welding has almost finished off the chassis structure. All the tube sections have been TIG welded except the rear cross brace, counted around 40 to 50 welds so far. The curved inner sill sections have been MIG welded into place via a mixture of seam and short runs. Plan to seem seal after powder coating. Fortunately the original vw floor pan is covered in carpet, difficult to construct something that looks right.
Update on the engine, its in the process being stripped down for a top end rebuild, heads, valves, etc. The cooling tin has been sent away for powder coating.
Might have been easier to just cap the end off, especially as it cant be seen when the body is on. Just wanted to prove to myself that there is always another away, yes the hard way
Monday should see the welding of the intersection of the rear torsion bar tubes and what is now a big gap for the gear box.

I hate grinding

Still on the bright side, only a few hours to go.
