So did you buy it as a shell, have it restored over there and then ship?

Would love to know more!

I started looking for an open top 356 mid 2007. The cars I looked at always turned out to be much worse than they were described. My criteria was that it should be matching numbers and under $60k, which should have got me a decent runner. Nothing pristine, and probably some rot that needed doing at some point in the not too distant future. After looking at 6-7 cars that were at the top end of $60k I decided I'd rather get a car to restore from the off.

I found the car in early 2008. The owner had taken it to Emory Motorsports to strip it down and restore it. Car gets stripped, owner takes a detour into 911's and loses interest in the 356. At that point the car looked this this

and boxes of parts.

I liked the way it was a warts and all car, nothing hidden and all it's faults out in the open.

Part of the deal was that Rod Emory would complete the work. I'll dig up some more photo's of the work in progress.

thanks Andy.

It was a pleasure working with Rod. Knowledgeable, accommodating and honest. A real pleasure to deal with. Could have been a bit faster but I was more interested in getting it right than getting it on a particular date. And to top it all off he\we were only $4k off what we budgeted 4 years ago. I really can't recommend him enough.

Totally off tangent Andy. Were you at Castle Hedingham? if you were, the bloke that looked at you for slightly too long, with 2-3 kids in tow, was me :)

Apologies for not spotting you ...

Picked the car up fom Chatcham ( could do a whole new post on that!)

Took it for an MOT, passed first time but had a very kind mot man. Put black tape on the headlights, found some notes on his system that said ....pre 65 car can have a combined brake/indicator ( amber section for indicating and brake, red section only for when lights are on), and then the one that really made me smile. The windscreen washers weren't connected, but he passed it saying that I have an alternative way of seeing what's up ahead if the windscreen obstructs my view......by looking over the roadsters windscreen.

I took all the paperwork on Thursday to the local DVLA office and a nice gentleman filled the forms for me. This morning I get my paperwork back with my registration number.

354 YUP

I'm not sure if he's having a laugh or was trying to be nice :)

I'll post a couple of photos later

and now even the number plate man is starting to take the *iss :blackeye:
