It was the mild steel version, tbh I would've gone with the stainless one if I woudn't have got this one for such a fair price. I've heard about the substandard fit and finish of the Dansk parts in general but it lined up nicely and was exchanged in in less than half an hour, only had to use some 10mm longer screws for the holding straps as it seems to be of slighly larger diameter.

Dropped the car off at the local garage for fitting a new windscreen, received a call a few hours later being told its all rotten below the seal so I picked it up and brought it home for a quick clean of the rusty areas so I could see the extent of the rust. Its shitty news but I'm glad they called me so I could decide to stop them from fitting the new windscreen.

Driver side area below the seal - Not sure if I've got skill enough to fabricate the curved piece or if I should buy a replacement.

Passenger side area below the seal - Will probably be enough with a bit of sand blasting.

Hi, Depends how far you want to dig...

I'd buy the repair panel, but what you'll find when you cut the outer off is that the inner reinforcement may also be rusty and so begins the never ending rust chasing!

As a minimum you are into taking the wings off to get in there properly and a reasonable amount of paint, then it's very difficult to avoid the 'while I'm in there' jobs.

Patch it, paint it, drive it until winter then do it properly

What he said!

Didn't realise you needed it for CLM :)

Hi Gary,
Yes you're certainly right regarding what will be found below the scuttle... Only thing I'm sure about is that it need to get properly sorted whatever lies beneath the scuttle, I plan to keep the car and only want to touch this area once. That said my skills might not be up for it so I might have to try to find a proper panel beater.

I think 'll spend the rest of the night browsing for pictures of scuttle repairs...

Worst thing to do!……organise getting the screen back in and browse pictures of CLM instead! :)

Haha, I might just do that, bodge it for now and sort it properly next winter, I do realize that when I finally dig deep it might end up in a full-on refresh as I do want to get it back in original colour, which I'm sure will take a while...

Definitely don't do that or you will just scare yourself :)

Curiosity got the worst out of me so I decided to pull the wing although I had decided to wait until aft CLM... I must say it doesn't look too bad (remind me later )Image

Clearly quite a few panels have previously been replaced with galvanized parts so hopefully I'll get away with just the outer scuttle, A-post looks ok :-)

Started to scrape the the inner wing and only found 2 small holes which hopefully wont cause too much trouble.

Silicon the holes for now, fit screen back in and wing back on.
go to CLM and plan for a busy winter.

A replacement corner has now been properly welded-in, surprisingly easy as it for once didn't look worse when opened-up, was only time to epoxy prime and fit the window to be ready for CLM but at least I'll be going in the 911 8)

It was the first time fitting a 911 windscreen and I really struggled with fitting the alu trim bits so I decided to leave 'em off as I'll anyway need to pull the screen again this winter => only to realize afterwards when browsing DDK for windscreen replacement hints that.
a) The trim bits need to be fitted to the seal BEFORE fitting the screen... Note to self, check procedure before trying to do something you're clearly not capable of
b) Some sort of sealant is supposed to be fitted in the channel corners before fitting the seal to the screen...
c) I'll bring duct-tape if it leaks

Also got one of those early horn buttons from Ramon over on the s-registry and I quite like the look, sorry for the poor photo, as usual.

Yeah :)

Great to hear the car will be making it down to LeMans
