Hi Neil
If you've taken advice from someone you trust surly that's the person to take it to for a pre MOT 'once over'. I had my 911 checked out by a reputable pre purchase inspector (no one on here) then a year or so latter taken to an independent Porsche specialist for a service and to start fixing some of the issues from the pre purchase (plus a lot of they missed) and have built up a great level of trust with this person/company.
IMHO It's good to know where you stand with an old car, if not vital if you intend to drive it rather than polish it...

All the best
Ian F.

I have a sort of feeling your imported car will be a RHD version. That being the case the headlights should be okay. I realise it can be very difficult getting a car to garage some way away from where you live or work. However, Essex is not so far and if you specify really what you want and no more at this stage you could probably take it to http://www.prs356.com and wait for the checkover and advice. I have no affiliation with them but I would trust them to give you an honest answer. I have never taken my 'A' to a garage in over 40 years except for MOT's. I would though, take the plunge go to them if I really needed help.

I also have an idea, but could be wrong of course who sold you the car. If I am correct they know 356 inside out and backwards so its probably okay.

Best of luck

Roy
Off topic I know, but I'm very impressed with your 40 years ownership of your 356.

I never expected actually to keep the 356 for 43 years. With luck, I have also managed to keep the same wife for just over 45 years. For me, I obviously made the right decisions at the right time.

Sorry I don't have any info on the wing mirror but I'm seem it on some outlaws. Although I'm not sure that this is intended to be one. Did I mention it was a Harry Pellow engine so should run well :)

Looks a nice car Neil. Obviously I was mistaken about it being RHD and I presume it was not therefore a car that came from Vic.

Mirror looks like the GT version

Looks very tidy - I hope it has a good trip over the ocean and does not hit any icebergs!

if the car has a pellow motor I doubt the rest will be too crappy -not much to alter to make UK ready really

head and tail lights are simple- red rears are legal on that yr car, the headlights just require a pair of rhd spec sealed beam units fitting (any decent factors will sell them - land rover, mini fitment etc) - assuming its 12v converted?
front indicators just need yellow bulbs - although I never bothered on mine ..
king and link pins will probably need a good greasing - but that is a habit you want to get into early
then its just usual stuff like brake performance/balance and the handbrake - all simple stuff for an enthusiastic owner, or any specialis

I believe it's a still a 6v. It just accorded to me that I need to change the lap seat belts. I'm sure some think they are cool but safety first for me.

no legal requirement to change to 3 point or harness devices -
I guess there are a few companies who can advise, but I have used Quick Fit SBS in Stanmore N london. They offer bespoke manufacture (and fitting if required) for lots of classic and recreational vehicles which do not have the relevant mounting points required to fit 3 point belts.
Of course you could just speak to PR Services as they will no doubt have a more finite answer to the seat belt issue, and other concerns you may have.

Just don`t go bolting seat belts through the Floor Pan they will open up the floor, like a sardine can, in a heavy accident

Look at the provision that Porsche actually made for belts in the `C` and SC`s and replicate that - it is the strongest part of the bolting area
