Nice one mate. When we were talking about this at Spa, you didn't say you were going to do it to yours!

That looks like really good job, well done.
Any idea what the power gain on a 3.0 cis motor would be.?
Where could I read up more on the "how to" of a project like this.?

More praise - great to read a thread on efi where good results out weigh the pain of getting there (?). I'll be having a go when time and money allow, I love the idea of having a laptop in my 70's car to tune the engine - very cannonball run, or something. I won't be sad to put the Zeniths on the shelf either.
Look forward to hearing future developments.

Hi Theo

Thanks for the compliment. The Bitzracing website www.bitzracing.com says that dyno testing shows a 23Bhp gain for this conversion on a 3.0 litre. I'll be really interested to see the difference to mine when I get it to Bobs dyno. If you want more info read the bitzracing site and there is a massive post on Pelican by Tony, the owner of bitzracing, about this conversion and how he came to create this kit. If you have an hour or two and are interested then its a good read. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche- ... i-kit.html There is nothing stopping you from using Throttle bodies if you want more bhp as Megasquirt supports them. See Impmad2000's thread re his conversion. It depends on what you want the conversion to be as to whether you want maxiimum power (throttle bodies at more expense) or a good usable weekend conversion at a very affordable price (Bitzracing kit). I fall into the latter but am happy knowing I can change to ITB's and crankfire ignition and twinplugged heads when funds allow and that Megasquirt can handle these with ease (not that I'm likely to twinplug mine but never say never).

Thanks 9xx,

I'm not that technical with cars, I've never attempted something like this before but the manual (downloadable from the bitzracing site) is so straightforward even I can follow it. The kit is designed by a canadian as a weekend conversion for americans with CIS cars that aren't running correctly due to worn out CIS bits. The biggest issue we had were struggling to remove a pair of inlet manifold studs and me buying the wrong size fuel pipe (needed 5/16ths not 1/4!!!!). 2 minutes with a hot air gun sorted the studs out and a trip to the local motor factors sorted the pipe out. Hardly showstoppers. Provided that your engine is of a known quantity and running reasonably well you shouldn't be too far off from a base map for your engine. We started out with Jamies map but it has needed some amendment throughout the range. Bitzracing has a stash of maps for 2.7's, 3.0's, 3.2's, 3.3 turbo's etc so if your engine is one of those and standard then it should be simpler than mine as the map is already there. Nobody has done this conversion to a 2.4E yet afaik so I'm creating the map for it and will pass it back to Tony at Bitzracing for the next person with a 2.4E to use. I too love knowing I can tune my car from a laptop. Its so wrong but so right.

Cheers

James

HI James
could you sort out you fan pulley before it shatters on you as there is not the correct amount of shims in there and the outer pulley 1/2 is loose and worn to the point you cannot get the tool in the holes to take the nut off, good luck and you need at least 6 shims in there.

regards mike

Thanks Mike,
There were 4 on there and the pulley was starting to crack. I have a new one on there now and 6 shims. I would never have spotted this.

Thanks again.

Top stuff James 8) . A great project, and one that absolutely follows the spirit of how I did the car when I had it: i.e., all originality had been lost when it was in Germany in the eighties, and therefore I always felt that I had carte-blanche to do anything. I'd like to think that I used my meagre funds wisely.

This is fabulous: I always thought that the engine felt restricted, and I love the idea of a dial-able conversion that doesn't blow the bank and is an interesting project in it's own right.

I can't wait to see it at CLM.

Give us a ride mister, go on, please, please mister? :)

Hi Barry,

For you, Of course. It wouldn't be here if you hadn't rebuilt it.

The car was at the garage yesterday for them to have a look at the conversion and also about the fan pulley issue noticed by Mike Bainbridge on friday. I took the garage owner out for a quick blast along some local dual carriageways and he was really impressed by how neat the engine bay is now and how professional the conversion looks. He also expressed an opinion that given the way it was pulling that it may have more power than a stock E on MFI. I really need to get it to Bob Watsons to confirm or deny this.

I'm still grinning like a Cheshire cat.

See you in France.

Looks like a job well done James. Look forward to taking a closer look at CLM. I've had it in the back of my mind to convert mine back to fuel injection as it's now on carbs. I have all of the original parts boxed up and am very keen to see if I can utilize these in a megasquirt conversion. Look forward to having a chat. :)

Hi James
Thanks for the input.
I will do some homework now, I think I will first check my motor for overall condition, leak down ect and then decide which way to go.Efi plus ssi plus cams maybe 50hp extra?I will compare that to a 3.6 transplant.
Thanks again.
