Driveshafts

Today was a more relaxing affair, with just the driveshafts and brakes to reinstall before I could consider the rear being completed - that is, at least able to be rolled on to a trailer to go to Tuthills to be inspected and aligned.

The hammerite had dried overnight and the CV joints cleaned up nicely - in fact I would hazard that they are pretty new by their condition.

Image

Pack them with CV Joint grease and stick on the gasket.

I threaded them up from the rear of the car through between the shock and handrake cable and in to the aluminium arm. Mine have two pins and two sets of bolts on each CV, so remember to set the driveshart and hub orientation for the pins and holes to align - who didn't remember first time :-)

Support the other end on an axle stand while you get the first set of bolts in.

Then go to the transmission end and locate the pins and they are in.

Just needs all the bolts tightening, which isn't easy withthe car in the air with no handbrake as yet, so that goes on my list of 'things to tighten'.

C12 Brakes

The last thing to be fitted is the brakes.

I have upgraded to the 4 pot rears (6 pot fronts) from C12, they being very light and yet powerful should I have a motor to warrant them one day.

They are a direct bolt on, with no adapters, but I have had to remove the brake dust covers.

I could trim the covers down and refit - should I ?

They are supplied with stainless flexible pipes to connect to the rubber fittings on the radius arm - I may also upgrade these in time.

The pads are Ferodo DS3000, and are a breeze to fit. Just undo the allen head bolt and remove the retainer - so much simpler than standard pads !

It will be a while yet, as I need to get the front brakes and suspension back together.

Then it will be trailored to Tuthills for a visual check-up and suspension setup - I don't want to risk driving the car without first having it professionally looked at.

I will do a separate post on the front suspemsion / brakes.
