haha, that is true.
this one hasn't got many miles after the rebuilt.

basicly that will be the same with alll the work we put into zink plating powder coating etc, when you have a look at the car some months later all will be dusty and dirty but building this thing with new clean stuff is a big pleasure !

The other end of the axle has 4 or 6 bolts just like the end by the gearbox - I don't think you should leave them hanging down as this strains the CV ?

I see you have a lift - like me :-) Did you lift the car body off the engine ? Or did you lift the car and engine and then lower the engine ? What did you support the engine on.

just keen to know if I need to do it myself.

sorry, this is to much fun to stop :alien:

@ ian, yes we unbolted the bolts at the axle ( the part that goes into the brake disk ) but what now does it slide out with some pulling or is it indeed bolted to the big that keeps it al together ?
that would be the castle nut...

Hi it sounds like it's just stuck :)

Give it a tap with a rubber hammer and it should fall off. It's not bolted through to the big nut.

ok,
update..., we almost have the car naked for sandblasting and primer before the car goes to the metal worker to get the RS flares on and put a new front pan in.
I hear different story's about sandblasting, what we are going to do is to sand down the exterior of the car and the parts that are unbolted ( doors bumpers etc ) will be acid dipped to remove the paint.
the underside and interior will be sandblasted, but first we have to get rid of the 'unterbodenschutz'.
we brought our engine decklid to a guy that makes the ducktails himself , he makes the ducktail on the original engine decklid so a polyester ducktail on the steel decklid
I have seen his first example and it's very nice , the fit is excelent. more pics of that later....
here is the lady almost naked, last difficult thing to do is the wiring loom

update, nr...

car has been totally stripped also the unterbodenshutz has been removed and now it's time to get her to the sheet metal guy.
as you can see there is quite some things to do :
left front previous damage and battery acid leak in the tank support.
floor rust and back seat rust.
now the RS flares will be welded on and the sunroof clip will be welded in as well, wich is the most difficult part, normally it goes the other way around.
will post pics of this process.

here are some pics :

on our way.

repair !

and this is what we are doing in the mean time, getting the bolts and nuts sorted and of to the zinc plater.

@ Graham,
I found some oem porsche RS flares in the states that are currently welded on the car.
I didn't want the sc flares that you see very often.

basicly all welding has been done right now starting with the Rs flares wich are basicly due to original parts wasn't that hard :
first fitting :
Image
cutting and welding:
Image
and finished :
Image

floor section repaired :
Image
Image
as like many other 911's the front tank support needed to be replaced with a new part :
Image
Image
and a new battery box :
Image

also due to battery acid leaks this section had to be replaced to :
Image

and now the most terrifying part, the roof , we had some doubts about that but all seems fine, thing that still has to be done is the draining pipes:

just had the car blasted and epoxy coated, it has to go back to the sheet metal worker due to the fact that after the blasting several rust issues came to light, small ones but they need to be repaired . like the part under the rear window, several tiny holes came up :

but overall she looks nice here are some more pics :

after that the car goes to the painter wich will be painting the underside and the engine/luggage bay and the interior.
Then we need to put the wheels back on her so the panel fitting can be done , after that final paint --- Slate grey !
the painter is trying to figure out wich product has the same structure as the original 'unterbodenshutz' I think I read that 3M has a good one.
also does anyone has a ral number of the colour of the tank, the light grey colour ?

more too come........
