Thanks one and all,

I think they are 944 origin. I can confirm they can ( with minor mods and engineering) be made to fit under 6 by 15 inch fuchs rims. All I need to do now is find some suitable rotors.
SO
Im looking for 1 front and 1 rear 944 S2 turbo disc rotor ( scrapp ones are fine at this stage ) also any suggestuions of possible other sources.

Andy
I have a '69 LWB 2.0T that I'm interested in doing a brake upgrade whilst keeping the 6" Fuchs. Please keep me informed as to how you get on (so I can scrounge all your hard won knowledge :) )

Martin.

Story so far : these calipers are off a 944 S2 or a 944 S1 turbo.

I can confirm that the calipers will fit the front strut "ears" on my Koni eqipped 75 car. BUT you have to fit interference fitted top hat blanks into the original mount holes on the caliper ( spot facing the caliper to take the top hat) Then redrill the mounting holes to suit the 911. These fit under my standard 6 by 15 fuchs.

The rears are harder . I have designed and will have made a steel adapter bar to locate the rear caliper and provide new mounting features. This needs the caliper slotting on a mill to make it fit. This part I have not completed yet.

I have not sorted suitable rotors or mounting details yet but am on the case.

I'll post some pictures of the work soon for comment. You do need pretty good machining skills to make this work and don't follow me untill I've sorted rotors ( it could be a blind alley )

A photographic update.

Here a couple of snaps of the machiningg fixture I knocked up to hold the new calipers and caliper adaptors for machining.

This will let me hold the caliper half solid and true both to remove the old "ears" and drill and tap for the new adaptor .
It also allows me to machine the adaptor square and drill it clear to suit.

So you have machined off the axial mounting so you can fit these radially?
I thought the axial mounting on these was ok if you have 3.5" bolt spacing on your struts (a slight opening of the holes is req.)

Gary, wouldn't a 3.2 upgrade be plenty ?

Indeed it would, however as usual I'm looking for the difficult (read cheaper!) way to do it! :)

My struts have 3" spacing ears so without changing them my caliper options are rather limited.

Folk, upgrade is going well calipers split and at machine shop ( read work) for lunchtime effort. Ears machined off all four now working on adaptors and drilling spacing both to hold caliper and affix to car. Watch this space.

Latest on the brake front ( and rears)

Spacers machined to push out front hubs 3 mm ( still ok on bearing lands and
retaining lock ring is still fully on available thread) This allows the thicker discs to clear the bottom ball joint area on the lower wishbone.

All "ears" machined off and trail fit carried out , front is simple rear slightly harder. The brake backplate mounting lugs have to be cut off ( 10 mins with a hacksaw and a rotary burr) This allows the caliper to sit in far enough to gain satisfactory pad position. I will have to slightly reduce the pad width and reform the stainless steel pad bearing shims but no real problem if you have some ability to machine or form metal.

the attached photogs show assembly and trail fits . I'll finally fit front hubs and discs tomorrow to allow determination of final adaptor dimensions. have measured up the rears now ready to make the adaptor.

This evenings update.

spacers collars fitted , checked adequate stub axle nut engagment , checked adequate front wheel bearing support, fitted front hubs and discs measured for adaptor machining. Also fitted up backs ( no snaps yet) with pads to check interfaces. Bit of pad overhang on outside (3/16 inch) so a little reprofiling will be in order no probs though.

Dont worry it all has to be anodised and made properly pretty before it gets fitted .
