I would agree completely with the previous comment re left hand drive - I've had four RS's - five if I include my 964! - all have been LHD , I feel this gives a much wider choice ( from what is a fairly restricted choice !) and also gives a larger market place if you should ever wish to sell and I've certainly never had any issues re the driving experience on UK roads.
It was my orange RS that appeared further up the page in the post which mentions the fairly serious accident I had, that car is with Autofarm, not Hairpin as mentioned and as far as I know is still in the process of a (very) long rebuild.Great testiment to the cars build quality that I'm still alive, as Peter Morgan said to me "good job you weren't in a Ferrari or Lotus"
My present RS was bought from Maxted-page and also checked for me by Peter Morgan - a better group of people when dealing with RS purchase/inspection it would be harder to find.
As previous posters say , proceed with caution, don't rush and make sure you buy the right one -

As an aside someone mentioned in a previous post ( sorry I don't know how to paste the comment!) the GT40 at Maxted-Page, as I recall from the time I visited it was on the market for £1.2Million - you could get a few RS's for that !!!!

I have owned both a RHD and a LHD RS and there are advantages and disadvantages to both but the main thing is it is the same driving experience which is what counts IMHO.

I grokk this now James, and it's also helped me to clarify why I desire an RS so much. TBH it has taken me so bloody long (46 now!) to get to this point, and I have been so single-minded in that pursuit, that I am going to buy the one that I like best. I am going to ignore the market, because the car is for me.
I like the way that you said 'guardian' and I agree with that. The way I feel about them is the same way that Nick Mason feels about his 250gto, and his cherished plate '250gto'. He will never sell them, or, if he has to they will be the last to go. I just don't see them as an investment or a commodity.

Thanks for the reply. I read about your accident in the other thread, bl**dy hell! Are you fully recovered now? Must have been awful to see your car like that? But, it really does speak volumes for the strength and integrity of these cars.
Cheers for the Peter Morgan quote; I love reading his column in the mag, he is always right on the button. Is it not always Peter himself that inspects the cars?
What I am going to do is mention the cars that I am interested in on here. Though I am going to be a little circumspect, as I mentioned on PH, twice cars that were mentioned on that thread sold the next day. Coincidence? maybe.
I think what is happening is that people like me are hovering and waiting for an available car to get a recommendation from someone who knows and then off they go.

Had a look on the site, you have to pay to join, but if I go for the Oz car, then it will definitely be worthwhile.

As an aside the T+S (trouble and strife for future ref) is pushing me to pursue the Oz Orange car....why?
Because she'll get some winter sun in Sydney

Truth be told, I am waiting to see if there is a UK car as good as that one, if not...well watch this space.

Mike: Looking at your car made me realise that I'd never seen a 'naked' (no Carrera decals) RS before, but doesn't it look good? Wow mate! Reminds of the only other -non RS- that I like, and that is the black '74' car at Hairpin. Beautifully understated car Mike.

Am eager to hear about the top RHD car......I'll be watching this thread.

OT: On another thread you mentioned Classic Le Mans and the drive down. When is that, and are you going this year?

A black RS would originally have been supplied with red 'carrera' decals and colour matched Fuchs wheels just like the car at Fiskens. Black on black was not a factory finish but I like it too!!! Thanks
