That is looking very very nice. All those ossi blue, aga blue, dalmation blues are really starting to tickle me fancies. What a great project!!

My '66 912 has the three dial / painted dash...but someone, somewhere painted it black over the red it was originally.

And just for the record, chassis no. is 457477. (Nothing special about that!)

Yes this is normal, 65-66 seems to have both 5 and 3 dial dashes, painted 3 dials being the rare ones, and being rare people seem to want them more, they are pretty though.
I got me one of those painted dash ones.. on the 65 the car was Ivory and some one painted the dash black so i am painting it back as I found the orginal Ivory under there..

But it will be silver as the car had a colour change....

This car is now for sale if anyone is looking for a project '12. Very seldom see cars this early on the market.

I would assume (and if anyone knows differently please correct me) but all the early cars had dashboards painted body colour but then at some point in late 65 early 66 the factory then simply painted the dash areas satin black over the body colour.

Hello gents,

was just re-reading this thread, could anyone enlighten me re. the significance of the 356T6 stamp Max mentioned below:
revival-cars wrote:Have a super early 912 in for some work at the moment - 912 number 445

Has a few querky features, like the chassis plate stamped 356T6 / 912 and a green dial oil pressure guage
I've noticed my '66 has the same stamp on the chassis plate and was curious - I'm afraid my historical knowledge of these cars isn't a patch on most of yours.

Cheers, Neil

As I understand it, its the factory code for the optional early Euro. spec heating system. Strange but true!
