I was always a bit nervous about opening up the cam covers, but after helping Mike open mine up in under 5 minutes with minimum oil loss I will make a point of examining my tensioners every 12 months as part of my annual service.

I put hydraulic chain tensioners in my engine when it was rebuilt, despite the fact the wife was making lists of things to do around the house.

James, somewhere a long time ago I saw a Bosch part number for the injectors and a statement that if you bought them from a Bosch supplier rather than Porsche they are about 2/3 the price. As the dollar's weak you could try Bosch in the US? Worth digging around and if you get anywhere, let me know as mine are shot too.

James

my injectors came from pelican, I tried bosch direct (in the UK) but they were expensive, about £70 + vat as Tanick suggests it may be worth trying bosch in the USA.

I got my injectors from http://www.type-911.co.uk/home.htm

Genuine Bosch ones for £60.00 each + Vat :)

I have actually bought all my stuff from type911 as they have extremely good price & service :)

Thanks Chris, but Mike is reconditioning my originals :)

Stripped the paint off my fan shroud today & now realise why it had been painted. The gel coating has cracked around the top of the shroud that fits around the fan. I'm investigating ways of repairing this. I don't really want to paint the shroud.

Trouble with the weak dollar is that goods from europe cost more for the person youre buying from. You have to be careful

bit of an update :)

Mike has replaced the old tensioners :) The old ones were completly empty of oil  & one had welded itself together. Additionally the chain ramps were worn completly smooth.

So here are piccys of the new tensioners, new chains, new ramps & a new cam pulley.

We have not fitted the 'pelican' safety collars as the new chain is tight & doesn't allow enough of the tensioner shaft exposed to fit the collars. I will fit the collars in a year or so once the chains have stretched a bit.

Also worth noting that Mike bled the new tensioners & refilled them with oil & replaced the seals. The reason for this is you are never sure when they were manufactured & how long they have been sat on the shelf. It turned out Mike is right to be this careful as one of the new tensioners was not full of oil any way. Mike recommends all new tensioners be checked before fitting.
