Good luck - but don't do too well or everybody will want one.
We'll try and make one of the events to spectate.

How much is the inspection costing you? Is that just for a log book or does it get you an FIA heritage certificate as well?

It was getting... and now has today the MSA Logbook. This consists of a MSA inspector guy making sure it complies to the blue book e.g. appropriate rollcage, seating, fire systems etc etc Mine passed and now has a logbook, cost £27
The Heritage certificate is a sort of self certification thing whereby you fill in some form take a load of pictures of various specific bits of the car e.g. engine (including induction system), suspension (with wheels off) etc. Send it off with the money (forget how much it is now) and what you get back is what you have to comply with every time you enter it in a 'historic' event. Also any period changes/upgrades also have to be edited thru this.
Hope this clears things up.
Cheers

Cool

When I got my MSA logbook for my Beetle it was just for drag racing so all I had to do was present it to the scrutineer at Santa Pod along with photos of it. I assumed that it would be the same for the teener but the HC is what really interests me

Just spoke to Shaun about cages

He's going to ring me back with a quote.

He's a real good guy

Did you mention me? he knows me well. His work is second to none, you won't be disappointed (believe me!!!), hopefully his quote will come to a figure that'll work for ya.
He's just done a bit more work on mine before I set off to the US. Replaced the panel above the silencer box in the boot with one he made himself and also made a strengthening brace (a'la the original GT's) that goes across the rear coilover towers and down to the box section that goes across the boot. Really chuffed to bits with it.... looks the nuts too. Will take a picture when I get back to UK and post it on here.
Cheers

Yep, I mentioned you because my car can't have the bar behind the seats in the same place that your's is. I've got to fit both me (I'm 6'3" with long legs

) and the /6 cooling fan in

I've just realised as well, I don't mean a Heritage Cert. above, I mean a Historic Technical Passport

I've infortunately really slowed up on progress due to work and other commitments lately (it seems I'm out of the country more than I'm in at the moment

) But here's a few shots of what the car looks like as of yesterday:
I forgot to take some pics of it with the boot open as Shaun (the guy who did the rollcage) has made up a rear brace a'la the original GT's. It's needed to reinforce the rear cross section for when the rear skid plates go on.... if you land on the rear skidplate heavy without it you can quite easily end up with a car resembling a banana at the back. I'll try to remember to take a pic of it when I get back to the UK. Also the skid plates (front and back) are made up I just need to put them on and trim them slightly... also need a couple of slight bends put in them to fit snug up to the floorpan. 6mm thick special strong aluminium.

Looking nicely purposeful now - those number squares and mudflaps really complete it.
You'll have everyone expecting an impressive performance to match the visual promise.

You can see in the pic above the bolt on gusset on the windscreen pillar, this is because if I race in europe I have to take these bolts out to conform to FIA historic spec rules.
Here again you can just make out the rear bolt-in gusset that attaches to where the top seatbelt mount used to be.

Why are the FIA so pedantic about the cage bolting to the windscreen pillar but the MSA are not? Is increasing chassis stiffness really not allowed? Hmmm, what do they do about ensuring that performance is not increased by using modern tyre construction/ compounds, new brake pads or even new fuels etc etc etc?
