so sorry to have missed you at the weekend.. only as i was leaving did i see mr moss.. a friend was driving my 3.6t on the other side of the castle and i had to meet him for the drive of shame down the hill to the entrance where had 3 x 996 gt3 rs waiting to convoy home.

appreciate the kind comments re bLimey, been a few years now since the resto (way before i bought it) and few bits still need sorting, leaky sunroof, correct seat cloth (bought but not fitted!)

did we really fool the announcer with the tongue in cheek plate? letter from jurgen barth to paul howells says its an RS, who am i to argue!?

every time i drive it just gets better and better and 3rd gear thru dartford tunnel on ssi's and sport box was worth the journey alone!

my 75 carrera widebody resto is taking longer than anticipated.. but all good things come to those who wait?! as you noted nearly a year ago, look forward to the over spend.. no SH T!

this thread has been a great source of information and i take my hat off to you saving another classic Porsche, the depth of your pockets and the quality of the work by the craftsmen involved. keep calm and carry on

Yes. The decal on ducktail badging only last one year. For the next 15-20 years the metal badge ruled. Everyone saw metal badges and everyone came to believe metal badges were correct. The decal has long been NLA.
I say again Porsche used decals on the fibreglass. They did on the RS and they did on the Carrera.

Paul, as I pointed out last week there have been metal badges on fibreglass...the RS included....refer to Peter Morgans book original Porsche 911, pages 47, 49 and 50....unless of course Peter is wrong....and Mark ran a non original car

The metal badge was used as an option when the Touring cars were specified with a decal delete option, as I was told by a learned member of our club.... Mark Waring's old car R004 is cited....interesting that it appeared at Heddingham last weekend with the Carrera stripes (now) on the car....did anyone take a picture of the rear....?...has that been changed too....?






they do fit on the fibreglass spoilers with care, as mine has been running with that option for the past 6 years and it hasn't popped off yet....

Jonathan, it's all conjecture I guess. I'm not convinced by any RS that claims to have been fitted with a metal badge. Even if it's in a book.
And it seems the current owner doesn't either...

yup, I guess it is...all lost in the murky depths of time...mind you, as the current owner has added Carrera stripes he had to put a decal on the back.... ...

Here's a label we discovered when cleaning up the heater/fresh air controls. 10.4.'73

The fresh air/heater mixer boxes cleaned up easily enough.

And the fresh air/heater blower motor unit cleaned up nice too. Just like new.

Still got rusty studs and one is snapped, shoddy!

That could make or break this whole project, this isn't the standard I am use to seeing.

He must be teasing us - any minute now we'll see a porsche bag and bar code
