I bet these are really hard to get hold of. But it wouldn't be complete without one.
What are you going to do?

Nicely set up for me to respond.
And I'm delighted to confirm that I have already managed to source the (one year only) sticker.
I purchased it from Karman Konnection and it's worth pausing a while to say, "what a great bunch of guys, friendly and helpful. It was a small transaction with very little profit for them yet they impressed me by their cheery disposition. Gold star for KK".
So, I can't show you the sticker on the glass yet but it's ready to go.

Here’s one I photographed on the Tech9 restoration car.
It is a cool sticker with lovely seventies typography and great line illustration of the Carrera steering wheel.

Was it ever in doubt?! Cool sticker & lovely period detail

The car that started all this discussion was the marvellous Carrera of Paul Voce ('billy964' on DDK).
I looked over the car at Castle Heddingham and it is fabulous.
As I said to many people on the day, I'll be delighted if mine turns out as good.

Paul
Have you checked if the steering wheel on the KK sticker is hub centric?
I would hate that to let down what is so far a fantastic restoration.
If not, it's going to stick out a mile to those that now know (thanks to your explanation).
Hopefully you will be able to get it sorted if not.
Regards
Mike

Mike, I did check and it's correct. I can sleep easy.
Kindly check this over for me and reassure me it's correct for a late '73 car.
I purchased it from Andy so be gentle in your criticism if you think it's not period correct.

Phew, massive relief. Imagine the ignominy of missing that
Only joshing. Fair play for getting hold of one of those! Loving that attention to detail.

The "silver globe" is correct for the early 1974 model year 911s, but sometime late in 1973 they switched to the "gold globe" which celebrated the championship wins in 72 & 73. Exactly when Porsche changed to the new gold globe decal is unknown, though it couldn’t have been introduced earlier than September 1973 as the championships weren’t finished.
Does anyone have photos of original silver and gold globe decals? There are differences between the replica decals, but I assume one is closer than the others.

Sorry for traveling back in time to discuss decklid badging. Your theory about decals being used on fiberglass is interesting, and something I hadn't considered. I could be wrong, but from what I understand the early Carrera metal badges were affixed with adhesive, while later replacements (and possibly original) had posts & clips that required drilled holes. North American cars came with the decals for sure, and many still have them, but very few rest-of-world Carrera 2.7 MFI have anything except the metal badge. Could almost all of the decals have been replaced on rest-of-world Carrera (especially if badges required drilling), but not on the US Carrera? I'd find that strange...but it the alternative is also strange: badges on rest-of-world and decals on North American. I looked through over fifty photos of '74 C2.7 MFI with ducktail and almost all had badges (in fact, only 2 had the Carrera decal). Many of the badges had that aged anodized gray look from long sun exposure. Do we have any proof that shows the decal on a 74 Carrera 2.7 MFI? Ideally a few period photos or original cars?
Period magazine articles of the 1975 Carrera showed whaletails fitted with metal badges, but I'm still looking for a period 1974 Carrera article (non-North American market) that shows the ducktail. Does anyone have any 1974 articles showing the Carrera 2.7 with a ducktail?
Also, for the 73 RS, the metal "Carrera RS" badge I believe was only affixed to the those few RS that didn't have a ducktail.

Ryan, I’ve never seen a metal Carrera badge with no posts. Kindly let me know the Porsche part number when you find it.

There are many ‘survivor’ cars in the States, less so in our climate over here.

I’d be keen to see a clear shot of a metal badged ducktail pictured in the road tests of the ’74 Carrera. Then I might believe.
rynoshark wrote:Could almost all of the decals have been replaced on rest-of-world Carrera’s?
Yes. The decal on ducktail badging only last one year. For the next 15-20 years the metal badge ruled. Everyone saw metal badges and everyone came to believe metal badges were correct. The decal has long been NLA.
I say again Porsche used decals on the fibreglass. They did on the RS and they did on the Carrera.
rynoshark wrote:Do we have any proof?
Yes, the bible. Or Porsche PET as we call it.
Ferry Man wrote:the PET for 1974 lists a Carrera badge in metal as being for a ‘lid’ (flat metal engine lid). The part number for that is 91155931701.
The Carrera badge in decal form is listed for the ‘spoiler-lid’ (which I interpret as a ducktail). Part numbers for those are: 91155903604 (black) & 91155903605 (gold).
Why would they list a badge for the fiberglass 'spoiler' lid and the steel 'flat' lid as different part numbers?
Why don’t they list a metal badge that is affixed with glue?
In summary, I think I’m correct but I would welcome sight of an original paint car that has a metal badge. And I mean all original exterior paint, a duck that’s never been re-sprayed, yet still retaining a metal badge. I’ve never seen one.
