Thanks guys. I'm not too bothered about accuracy - it's more of a nod.
Took it over to the airfield today to do some work on the Cri Cri.
Lots of yellow going on in my hangar. The aircraft on the left is a Piper Super Cub, and the one of the right is a Beech Staggerwing. Both as pretty and iconic as the 911/912 shape.
I met the Staggerwing owner for the first time today - he's Californian, has live in the UK for 44 years and has had the aircraft since 1989. He had driven to the airfield in his Morgan
The Staggerwing is my second-favourite aircraft, after a Spartan Executive. Both Art Deco era. And a Super Cub is right up my street - would definitely be in my Top 10. This is the 'eclectic' hangar and, after three years of keeping my previous aircraft outdoors in the rain and mud, it's feels like a privilege to have a space in here (I only got in here because the Cri Cri is small enough to fit in a tiny space, right at the back, that no other aircraft could occupy).
The trip is about 35 mins from my home, with 20 mins on the motorway. It was the car's first extended high-speed cruise. 'Ts & Ps all in the green':

Great shot Jamie - the car (including the ride height) looks perfect !

Cheers Andy. A nice thing to read, coming from someone with super high standards like yourself. There's quite a lot to do before it's perfect, but I'll keep on with it...

What else is in that hangar? Are those invasion stripes, and if so, are they on an appropriate machine? You always seem to meet cool people at small airfields/aerodromes, and often find interesting cars lurking next to their owner's plane. When I'm traveling, I always try to stop by when I see a local airport sign...never know what you'll find.
BTW, your door gaps look RCH or credit-car thin...my SC's (factory) gaps look vast in comparison.
That color looks as good on a P-car as it does on a 105 series Alfa GTV. Cheers, John

Cheers John.
That's a J3 or L4 Cub. Don't know the story, so not sure if its a real L4 or not.
The nicest PA-12 I've ever seen lives over the back, plus a Pitts S1D (owned by a bricky about the same age as me) plus some other stuff I cant remember. Always some old cars hanging about, and there's an Austin 7 under a dust sheet in the corner (of course). The airfield is popular with motorcyclists - the previous manager had a Black Shadow, encouraged visitors and held a big classic bike show every year. Its just a great place if you like machines.

Temp ?? ... I would have been happier with it a bit cooler , even just "half an interval" lower. Of course different engine to 911 , so maybe they run hotter ..... but I would have liked closer to 180 mark in my (ex) 2.4E.

Re temp, my 3.2 hits that same level (though it's just marks not numbers) once at normal temp, creeps up a touch is really, really giving it some beans.
BTW car is looking great Jamie.

What revs are you running at with the temp gauge at 240. That does seem too high. How confident are you that the send and gauge are calibrated? You don't have the oil cooler over cylinders 3&4 so you would of expected it to run cooler? You can buy a infrared temp gauge off Amazon for 10 poinds

240 ?? , I thought the hidden mark was 210 (but my memory could be failing me !) .... my "rule of thumb" is, if the temp is getting over 100C on a regular basis ... then it could do with reducing a bit (cooler of sorts ?) ... more or less equates to 210 f ?

First submission for 2017 calendar:
Terrific shot, Jamie. One very cool looking motor, also.

That mark is 210 on my gauge too. It gets there on the motorway. At lower speeds it sits between 120 and 180.
I thought 210 was in the acceptable range?
There's an oil cooler in a doghouse on the back of the fan shroud. Do I need to think about adding an external cooler?
BTW I'm not confident that anything on this temp gauge is calibrated!

My 911 used to run at 210 most of the time and Tuthills said it was fine but when I really went for it on a hot day and then sat in a traffic jam it would rise up towards the 250 mark which is probably too hot. I fitted a front oil cooler and now it rarely goes much above 180.
The car looks fabulous and I love the planes. Have you sold the Jabaru?

I raised the concern , cause I saw just over 210 on your gauge ... and concluded that was normal running temp and you thought that was grand. Reading what you have above, makes me think ... that's fine. Different people will have different views on what's good and not so good.
911 temps are "odd". Given a normal water cooled car ... I would expect it to run cooler than normal on a motorway ... reason : Part throttle , and lots of air flow over radiator.
My 911 , like your car , would also run up near 210 on motorway ... but then cooler otherwise ..... does not seem quite "right" as it was typically working harder in the twisty stuff , with potentially less air flowing.
Possibly all to do with the way air flows over a 911 body at speed , and the way the fan "picks up" what air is available at it's door ... to cool things.
So in conclusion (my opinion) .... you are probably just fine as you are.

Awesome photos Jamie, all the work you put into prepping the shell certainly shows in the images.
Just love those lines
