Talking of which.

The lightweight being rebuilt at the Porsche guy I use in Norwich is mind blowing - probably the best I've ever seen.

I will add Kevin to my contact list. I've seen / talked to quite a few more people now, and I'm getting a much better idea of what is/isn't a 'good' 'real' RS.
Some aren't quite what they seem at first look, and having talked to people with far greater knowledge than mine I am beginning to understand what to look for and expect from a thirty-five year old car.

Didn't know there was a Porsche guy in Norwich! Having said that it's two years ago since I looked, must not have looked hard enough.

He doesn;t advertise at all as he's set up primarily to look after his bosses fleet and race cars. He's also doing a lot of rebuilding work for a dealer. I can check with him if either of the 2 RS's that he's rebuilding are going to be for sale.

Having read my previous post, it looks like I'm taking the p*ss, but I'm not.

My mother has a place in Aldborough, and we enjoyed staying there so much that we seriously looked into living there. One of my (secret

) criteria was a Porsche specialist, but I couldn't find one. Nor was there an OPC then. In the end it was links with T+S's family that pulled us back into the North West.

Funnily enough, a few of the roads that I can't wait to 'RS' on are around the Coltishall/Wroxham/Barton Turf area!

There's him in Norwich. There is a guy in Blakeney who is ex OPC and we have an OPC just opened!

Hi Steve, thanks for the bump.

Sorry about that! Me and the whole family have been leathered by flu for over a week now! I feel like I've lost a week of my life to snot and tissues!
It's been rubbish! I'm the one that has recovered first too! Added a week to my deadline too...ahh well some things never change.

I will properly update in the next day or two; but the only thing I can say at the mo' is that I'm eyeing one up, and seriously considering it. But I can't say anything yet.....

A week I said! That was brave, it ended up being two and a half weeks, and we are only just clear! Curse these micro-organisms!

H'ok, I need to get this thread back on track.

I've now chatted to / been talked at with/by most of the specialists that have been recommended to me. As an upshot of this I now know exactly what I want from an RS. I also understand the (many) variations in restoration/recreation/immitation that exist, I think......

The other major thing that I have realised is the different things people mean by 'original' and 'patinated'. Politeness keeps me from naming and shaming, suffice it to say that a coat of zymol and an exterior flashlit shot can make a great difference -in a jpeg on t'internet- to the 'reality' of that car.

I now grokk the need for finding out the car's actual history, rather than it's 'matching numbers, never been started, found at the factory, someone forgot to deliver it, still in the wax, plastic sheets on seats....' description on enthusiastic internet websites. My legal rep says I dare not say more than that, but allegedly, some cars, for sale, sometime, somewhere, are not 'quite' as described - allegedly. Caveat, caveat, caveat, and again caveat emptor!

On another note: The Blutorange car from Sydney is now sold, now this is very interesting, because if they achieved what they were looking for, then surely this car has topped the market? Where are you GULF908 when I need you? Can you find out what the Classic Throttle Shop got for this car?

I have also noticed on another thread the discussion of the high prices of the RS's. Fair enough, they are high, but how much longer do I wait for the bubble to burst?

Best wishes to Paul64 for the imminent (we hope) delivery of his fantastic looking RS.

I've applied to the Arts Council for grant - it's got to be more worthy of the Turner Prize for modern art than a crack in the floor of Battersea Power Station....

I've got to agree with you there Paul, and this is my main argument for the expenditure to the T+S!

Seriously though; and I'd like to throw this out to the DDK ensemble, what excuses do you use to your beloved's (male or female) to justify such expenditure on what are really-speaking toys?

Has anybody else run into the 'Do you know what else we could do with this money.....' type arguments? What do you say? Or has everybody else got understanding spouses, and I really am with the trouble and strife?
