Amazing - away for a few days holiday and another great instalment to read through.

I dare not think how much this is costing, nor I suspect do you Paul, but will this be the best rebuild ever - even better than Porsche Classic ? Just don't get to the end and tell us it is sold, but the new owner has kindly allowed Nick to look after it

Mike and you have set the bar so high for any future restoration thread. Keep it up and thank you Nick for opening the build up to us.

There’s a bit of rubber between the leading edge of the front bonnet and the bumper blade beneath.
It’s called a ‘smile’. That’s cute isn’t it?

Anyway, mine was rusted within (there’s a metal reinforcing moulded inside the rubber) and you can’t salvage them once they’ve gone like that.
Sometimes any corrosion doesn’t show too badly because it’s hidden under the lid but mine was too far gone so I ponied up and bought a new one.

You could like a lot do put the old one on ebay at a higher price than the new.

The car when discovered was pretty much dismantled.
All the parts were stored in packing crates and all the important stuff was there.

However, I never did find a bonnet badge.
The bonnet itself had been stripped so it must have been misplaced along the way.

In my Alladin's Cave did have a badge though, one of the later badges with ‘red’ bars. Which I thought was correct.
But as course it isn’t, as the car is such an early build date it should be fitted with earlier the ‘orange’ bar version.

So, I needed to find a badge.
Now – please don’t be offended – but I purchased a new one.

I’m guessing that the newly remanufactured Porsche bonnet badges may cause much comment on the forum but I’d seen samples of the brand new versions and thought they looked great.

No, they don’t have ‘patina’ but they do have gold plating that looks like shiny gold and not brown. And the enamelled orange bars are opaque and the correct colours.
Here’s a picture that illustrates the quality:

So I put my hand in my pocket and ordered a new one
