What would be the worth of a 2.7 RS spec engine once complete? It would be great fun to build!

He was of the view that the kind of buyer who would want it, would value it greater in parts so they could take all the necessary measurements themselves and verify the quality first hand of everything that went in. Once it's built, you could claim anything and who knows what's true.Tbh. I think the value of having all the parts there on day one, and not having to search around for them for a couple of years, makes it worth more than the asking price. He thought the built engine was worth at least what he's asking - e.g. what about a genuine RS owner who doesn't want to race in the original, matching numbers engine.

When the factory built the real 2.7RS engines, they used the normal production staff?

If so, why is a RS spec engine (a true spec) any less than an engine assembled on the same production line?

They are the same engine.
Further, when a real RS engine gets rebuilt by a specialist or OPC or me then that engine has lost it's appeal/value?

Dont look at it from an engineers or a racers perspective ...its all to do with the engine stampings and provinance and wether an engine was actually built for RS.. people value the mystique of owning genuine stuff ... These days you can build a perfect RS replica, but its still a replica and valued that way ( unless like in some some unsavory types fake the identities ).

I think the more of the rare, authentic stuff you replicate the more authentic it becomes. With the right engine case, actual MFI, mag wheels, the right steering wheel & seats, and just having the knowledge to get all the details right, I think this can transform a "replica" into a much more authentic-feeling car than some other replicas. If you combined some genuine Chippendale legs from a broken chair, a genuine Chippendale back and seat from another, and some genuine period upholstery, you would have a pretty authentic Chippendale. Many genuine RS's are probably more like Trigger's broom than the original item.

The super slippery rabbit hole of authenticity appears!

It all depends what is important to you, authenticity is great if you have the means but as the old chinese proverb states "with 100% authentic Porsche comes great responsibility"

For those that want a really fun driveable car or are attempting to make a reasonably close replica I think this sounds like a pretty good option.

Horses for courses, we're all different and that's a good thing.

Or you could spend your £25K buying a 914, preparing/modifying it to suit your tastes and then spending a season hillclimbing it, and still have money left over to get it ready for the following season. :)

1966 911S in Cardiff features in this video and is for sale.
Johnny seems much more excited about the 912 for some reason, but looks too far gone to me.

130K views in 2 days, reckon the old dude is getting battered with emails right now.

There wasn't a 'T' model in 1966 - it's supposedly an Italian market 911 with a later 2.2S engine fitted ...
