Some interior shots;

Kept the sound mat to a minimum ish, but thought the rear fire wall needed a full piece. Really tempting to cover everything, but its heavy stuff and the manufacture recommends 20 to 40 % of panel covered should be enough.

Fuel tank time

The tank had too much of a hard life to paint it black, so went with the body colour to mask the imperfections.

Re: 356A Coupe restro
Car delivered to the upholsterer yesterday to fit the head liner and Lakewell carpet kit.
Progress on the engine, which is great news.
Bottom end finally sealed up, front section on and full flowed for remote Oil filter complete
This is now a 1720cc with uprated camshaft and performance cylinder heads.
Carrillo rods, Forged JE pistons. Also has a lovely @jpsaircooled billet sump extension.

Really great to see it coming together!

Re: 356A Coupe restro
Paul at PRS provided the vast majority of parts, engine specs and technical answers whilst Aircooled hut measured, checked, machined and assembled. Paint by LA Customs and Zinc plating was a company in Beccles. The collaboration was to get the engine built in time for CLM. I was stuck in the middle trying to bring parts and assembly together and also not an expert on engines.

Hot66 I think we are in Mont Blanc camping
I did not realise there were so many parts to a wing mirror. These are my favorite period mirrors.

Onto the one year only front indicators. These have been butchered over the years and the mazak they are made from is really poor quality. Guess that why they call it monkey metal! I found some smaller indicator holders which fit inside the housing, fingers crossed they work ok. They do look quite similar to the Karmann Ghia must investigate at some point.

May have to increase the wattage of the bulb as the reflector is grey not silver and use amber lens to help to be seen

Re: 356A Coupe restro
There are some really good rattle can chrome effect paints avail these days. I've just restored the front indicator and rear light boxes on my 911SC with it. You could mask off the lens portion and try that to improve light output.
Is your engine builder certain the crank timing gear is serviceable? (Maybe just the pic but it looks very sore and galled in the pic above)
Keep the faith (as the Maestro used to say)

Re: 356A Coupe restro
I have some higher wattage bulbs to try to compensate, but yes a chrome paint rattle can would be a potential alternative. No idea what potential voltage drops there are in a 60 year old loom.
Never understood why they used steel crankshaft gear and aluminium camshaft gear maybe a weight thing. Must say they don't look great in the pics, no obvious wear just surface issues after a decade of non-use. At least these can be changed after engine is assembled as long as the oil pump is removed. We have looked at CPS straight cut gears as an viable replacement if needed.

Re: 356A Coupe restro
Yes they are changeable afterwards, its a bit of a faff.
Interestingly I spoke to PRS services about the straight cut gear sets as I had planned to use a set on my outlaw A engine build (that's another story) and they confirmed they are the same at the T1 VW gear sets. Somehow I ended up ordering 2 sets from the US so if you do want to fit a set of straight cuts I have a new spare boxed set here that I'll likely never have a use for.

Re: 356A Coupe restro
Is there any noticeable increase in noise? I guess given its next to the exhaust you cant hear anything anyway.
Yes would be interested in buying the gear set at some point, please PM etc
