First gear had never been good since I bought the car 10 years ago, but I forgave the stop and then first gear syncro issues.. even got used to holding the stick in second under load... and holding the lever in reverse up my rather steep driveway... the gearbox rebuild was not expected to be cheap.. but this is a COA matching gearbox..

Fair bit over the core has been replaced, between bearings, syncro rings, sliders, replacement gears this is not cheap. Real money can be saved buy German parts in the USA and shipping them back to UK. Especially if you know someone travelling to the states. Personal allowance to bring back gifts is/was almost $1000. US parts typically half that of Europe.

Today I gave up trying to fit one of a pair of rear wings that I had bought second hand from a swearword trader of 912 used parts .
How these people sleep at night is a wonder , guess they must be so desperate for money that bla bla ,anyway when I saw the ease of your repair , filling in the gap between the door lockpost and rear wing I felt, yes I'm not the only one dealing with this kind problem so thank you very much for your inspiration and sharing , I will attempt to copy your skillful repair to the best of my ability.

Felt a bit like Christmas today, just got the rims back from being re-furbed... still many months away from getting them back on the car. Saw a great slate grey car in Nick's workshop today, it has the wide 's' bumper trims on that would also be correct for my car.. currently am thinking about no trims, but they did look nice. Here is a picture of finished re-furbed 5.5 15.

Progress has slowed right down over the summer months. We are still pre paint, slightly derailed on the concerns about the front bumper fit... is the part too wide, please see my other tread. Progress is ongoing, the gaps on the doors are now sorted, here are a couple of recent pics from the workshop. Once the bumper is resolved we are done with the front, dents in the front bumper have been knocked out... basically the result of the frame hitting the underside of the skin over the past 40 years or so... visible is the light filling in the shape of the frame on the top of the bonnet skin.

Remaining work is at the rear of the car, rear bumpers, and deck lid. The deck lid is interesting, looks like it has too much curve on it into the corners, we will be looking to get this corrected, again I wonder if this is a result of a historic impact?

If the pictures were previously uploaded using the upload facility (which if you recall I had to turn off as it was being used all the time rather than just as a stop gap and was slowing the site down) then they would have gone now the facility is disabled
