A little update from me. Just a few pictures sent from the painter. All wash etch primer is now removed and the shell coated in primer.
Underside is coated in a black gloss coating as apparently it is easier to see any areas that require attention.

Next job for me was to confirm the colour of the paint...... This looks close.









Whilst the shell is being painted, attention has turned to the suspension and the refinishing of the 7" Fuch wheels that are fitted to the front of a 2.3 ST. The earliest 7 x 15 fuch wheels to run without a spacer were available from the race department in March 71. These wheels are very distinctive in there finish as the lathe marks from casting leave a rough finish on the wheel.

 Most early race department wheels i have seen are over restored and the correct finish was something i was keen to get right. This involves lots of hand finishing to roughen the correct areas of the rim. Many thanks to fellow DDK'r Kirk who kindly volunteered to undertake this rigorous process ..! Cheers mate.

Just a small update from me.

Visited the paintshop earlier this week to drop of various items for trial fitting. This part of the process is very time consuming but something that can't be rushed. A few pictures of the work involved on the front end. One of my pet hates on the front of an early 911 is crooked indicator lenses. Very happy with the quality of fitment.










My choice of door mirror was always going to be the Talbot W. berlin bullet mirror. Period correct, very lightweight and fitted to many an ST back in the day. Thanks to my ST fitting assistant from the North..!












Whilst the shell is away at the paint shop i have been kept busy trying to keep up the momentum of the build making various parts that will require painting. One of these items is the engine rain shields that protect the open trumpets from rainwater ingress.
The Porsche factory entered three ST cars in the 1970 Monte Carlo Rally, all three cars ran with aluminium plate rain shields under a simplified mesh grille.












Armed with some aluminium plate and several reference pictures to hand, i made up a set to closely match the dimensions of the originals. These will make there way up to the paint shop for the satin Black paint treatment.








Next job will be the fitment of the GHE rubber bonnet straps. Once these are in place we can straighten the bonnet to bumper line.

Will you be stone chipping the underside?

I didn't on my 930 and regret it, it looks pretty in smooth paint but you hear every bit of dirt hitting the underside and it doesn't take long of the paint to start to get damaged.

Jon, the painter is trying to convince me to put a very fine coat of what he calls "bagseal" on the underside of the arches.
