Thanks yes I've seen those sites - jacks 12 gauge garage is the stuff of my dreams - I'm full of admiration for what he's done - especially when you realise it wasn't just created by throwing money at it.

There are so many little storage ideas that are intelligent and really useful. I really fancy doing the car lift idea at some stage

Slight update to this. After building my steel table as a birthday present to myself I decided to rework the shed layout to a galley design. It's much more usable

Farrow and Bell? Urgh! Hellish to use. Craig and Rose every time.

Craig & Rose - never heard of them - will give them a try as it needs repainting again

Cubist - no idea what you're on with the toothpaste - there's a tube of hardener on the bench?? (actually that's right up your street )

Well how things have moved on…..

The Uber-shed was great - spent many happy hours making and breaking stuff in it.

In early 2020 though, back when we didn’t know how normal things were, we found a house to move to. We weren’t looking to move but fell in love with it.

A major factor for me was the outbuildings. The main one was going to be my new Uber-shed.

So I thought I’d revive this thread.

Here it is from the outside - before we’d bought it.



And here it is from the garden side



It’s a lovely old barn - maybe a couple of hundred years old.
However it needed re-roofing, and re-flooring. Also it was divided into 2 with the doorway in between built for small people



And finally the door for cars was in the wrong place - it opened onto the road but meant you couldn’t get a car in properly. It looks a big building but its less than 2 cars wide so you can’t swing round to get the car straight.


This pic was cool enough for the front of the DDK calendar but it’s not very practical.

One thing I was adamant about was that I wanted a flush-mounted car lift. It’s always been a dream of mine and this was my chance to make that dream come true.

Last December I pulled the trigger on this set-up from automotech


They delivered three boxes to the front of the house. One smallish and 2 big coffin-sizes boxes, each weighing about 350kg.

I then had to get them round the back and next to the Uber-shed.

I had a plan.


What could possible go wrong?

For the uninitiated, the engine hoist is not normally used that way around.

Eventually normal service was resumed

Of course getting the lifts round to the barn/shed was only part of the story. Once the pits had been dug to house them, I would need to manoeuvre these 350kg weights into the the pits - making sure they were in exactly the right position.

That would not be easy.

So, copying an idea from an American forum I made this



It uses a block and tackle and makes moving them around relatively easy



They do look a bit like gallows though don’t they
