Good news the car might not have done 170k as I don't think that speedo is original.
Bad news the speedo should be the 180 mph type like the RS

Hmmm, well that's rather odd.
I hadn't realised anything might be unusual in the dials.

I've looked at the PET and the '74 brochure and you are correct, they both appear to indicate the Carreras were fitted with a 180mph speedo.

Now, anything could have happened in the last 40 years but the dials all look to be a set.
I've also got substantial paperwork going back all the life of the car and the mileage tallies with the dial (and with all the old MoT's).
There's no mention of a speedo change in any invoices or DVLA papers.
But who knows?

I went back through my photos of the dials before restoration and I have a shot of the reverse but - as luck would have it, whilst the rest are crystal clear the speedo is blurred and indecipherable.

Sadly the date stamp on the speedo is unreadable (last one pictured here).

I'd be interested to see a MPH dial on an early RHD Carrera if anyone has any pictures of such a car.
Maybe there's another answer? Maybe it is the original dial?

Meanwhile I'll keep an eye out for a 180mph dial and buy one if I can.

The big problem is that when the car is finished I won't be able to drive it faster than 150mph..... :)

Every '74 Carrera you see from now on Paul, will have you peering in at the speedo to see which one it has...!

Speedy cable do a good job but they don't live up to their name do they

Mine (chassis 159) was 180mph. I thought they all were.

It was original, unrestored. The ink stamp was 10.73 I think.

They changed for 1977 model year.
The 76 Carrera 3 got the 180 mph version and the 77 C3 got the 150 same as the S model.

If it helps my Euro 74 2.7 #740 had a 300kmh speedo, the SB US Carrera you saw at Hedingham had a 150mph

Both guages appeared original

This is mechanical drive, PET lists it for the 2.7 Carreras
