No apologies for posting a couple of photos sent by Nick today of my now 'complete' engine........although I do apologise for the poor quality phone snaps, the engine deserves better!

Just waiting on the fabrication of a megaphone bracket and then it'll be ready to fit! :P

Lace up the fuel lines, bolt on the trumpets and then apply heat......

I think you will need a Plan B.
Andy Lightweight had such a plan for his 904.

Well, it's been an eventful week!....

....Nick has been promised the loan of an original megaphone bracket for us to copy......this and a scavenge pipe coming from Germany were the last items needed before engine fitment.

I'd also mentioned to Nick that I'd prefer hard fuel lines lines, these seem to be more in keeping with the early 2.5ST engines as opposed to flexi lines more commonly seen on the 2.8RSR....

....as ever, Nick came up trumps and sent me this photo last Tuesday.....

.....come Wednesday we were still waiting on the bracket although the scavenge pipe had arrived from Porsche so Nick suggested we get the engine fitted in the car and worry about the bracket later. Sounded good to me.

Thursday I had to trailer a car back to Gary at GDC Automotive with the plan to call in at Redtek on the way.....I missed Nick's call with 'news' whilst on the way but I was close by anyhow and was itching to get there and see if my engine was in....

.....and indeed it was........

......in bits!

.....it transpired that when fitting the scavenge pipe it had pulled the thread and what looked like a previous (poor) repair!

Despite discussing numerous options with Redtek machinist Mick with how they might repair the case in situ they both knew that the only real option was to strip the engine and machine a new insert.....

Image

....heartbreaking but reassuring I guess that the job was being done properly....shi.t happens!

Nick reassured me that this was just a minor setback of a couple of days, they were well on the way to repairing the case and reassembly was a simple task.....
