DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

On the 1974 911 Porsche stitched the pleats at a horizontal spacing of 65mm.
They did that seemingly irrespective of the pattern of the cloth.
That meant on some of the tartans the pleats clash somewhat with the pattern (i.e. the stitches fall in a different place on the design).

Southbound were kind enough to mock up a couple of possibilities to review.
One follows the Porsche spacing, the other follows the tartan design.
The tartan had a ‘repeat’ of approx 90mm.

I preferred the stitching that matched the tartan.
On my chosen layout the black stitches run through each horizontal thin black line in the pattern.
Aside from looking cleaner it means the black stitching ‘disappears’ into the design.
Therefore the pleats in my wadding are spaced 90mm deep.
The pleats will stop just short of the leading edge on the front seat bases and the portion that wraps down to the floor will be un-pleated (exactly as Porsche did).

The front seat base sides, back and headrests will all be trimmed in black leather.
The sides of the rear seat backs will also be finished in the same black leather.

In this shot you can see the tartan fabric set out and, to the rear of the bench, an original Porsche tartan seat cover (in red).
That was used to help match the factory style and ensure everything fitted well.
Laid over the green cloth (and hanging on the wall behind) are visible some of the many templates Southbound have for cutting fabric to the correct sizes.

I reckon the seats are going to look really good.

P.S there is a chip of paint missing from the bracket on the rear seat. I can't believe such shoddy attention to detail
