I am mystified as to why anyone would even consider anything else.

There wasnt a tyre that suited these cars other than the XWX. Longstone Tyres got Pirelli to make the 185/70VR15 Cinturato CN36 again, and we were about to get them to make the 215/60VR15 CN36 again, when Porsche got wind of what were were doing with Pirelli and got in touch and got involved with Pirelli because they were so pleased to have the perfect tyre for their early cars again. It is important becuase modern tyres dont suit themm which is why Porsche got involved. Porsche got some tyres and tested them and homologated them with the N.

why would you want anything else?

CN36 on my 2.2E and have to say, one I'd got over the wallet shock the tyres are perfect for the car. Now ordering a set for my Alpine A110 too

Sorry about the cost thingy; but it really can’t be helped. The price of everything has gone up horribly. And the applies to quality tyres particularly. A big contributor to the cost increase is that Russian idiot.

Yes, good news overall indeed.

I await the type of tyres to be made, both compound and sizes let alone Crossplies or only radial constructions.

The crossply size for the front of my Lola are discontinued, infact stopped in 2023.

Indeed good news but I wonder if they will manufacture road tyres as well? (CR6ZZ etc)

Good question Ian, in my 'world' nobody has asked that question as there are so many good tyres for road cars, but non for race cars.
I would think road tyre production was low compared to race tyres?

I’ve just replaced my admittedly 12year old track tyres (Yokohama a048) with cn36 and my 2.0e has never driven so well, not cheap but I’m now very happy, Jason.

I have been telling people this for ages and they just think i'm an idiot, or a blood sucking leach salesman after their money. I'm not denying their is a little truth in both synopsis. There are a few people who would be keen to tell you im an idiot; i do of course employ people and i have got a family. I do also need to flog some tyres to pay for my crippling energy bills. However i do actually have some integrity, I also have, at least, bit of a clue what i''m banging on about, Pirelli are actually really good at making tyres and Porsche did ask Pirelli to make these tyres again because they are actually really good with these cars.

(All things considered it is a shame that your tyres were old when you changed them, it sort of diminishes the validity; However you do say

which is nice).

A question please, a general one:

Tyre life and the LAW, esp the MoT man.

Modern tyres are dated in the side wall (all nowadays I think).

What are/is the criteria to fail a car's tyre at the MoT?

Age, or actual condition ?

I'm ignoring wear, bulges, pot-hole assaults etc, just rubber condition or date or other.

I've read 7 years no matter what is the 'life' of a tyre.

There are currently no MOT rules surrounding tyre age for private passenger vehicles, but tyres over 10 years old at the time of the test will be failed if they are on any front steered axle, or any rear axle of a minibus with a single wheel fitment.

That is for a minibus, and as above NOTHING for private passenger vehicles.

Europe does have age limits, but not the UK.

MOT Manual 5.2.3 ‘TYRES’ states.............

The check of tyre age applies to all vehicles with more than 8 passenger seats, other than vehicles of historical interest.

Tyre age is determined by the date code on the sidewall and will be a three or four-digit code. Tyres with a three-digit code will be more than 10 years old.

The code is usually located in a ‘window’ on the sidewall and may or may not be located at the end of the DOT number (see image below).

I asked a similar question a few months ago, but I'll ask again - Does the MOT Manual state the tyres have to be E marked?

Surely that must be so?
All the MoT tests on my varied cars seems the tech focuses only on he condition he can see not the details on the side wall.
