As it happens I am. But there's one more thing to sort on the outside. Lights...

One of the things I wanted was to be able to see at night - and normal VW lights are not famed for their brilliance. I had a 6v bug. That was like having a couple of candles on the front. So I decided that I wanted full modern LED lighting on the van. Not to everyone's taste, I know. But after much searching, I came up with these - JW Speaker lights from America - these are 'dual burn' units (which means both bulbs are on for full beam) and have 'positioning markers' (ie sidelights - that will get me through the MOT) but it also has all day running lights - which I hate. But on looking at them closely, it's possible to wire them for the sidelights, and not have the all day lights on. Excellent. So I went and bought a pair. They're 7" so should fit in the existing holes without modification.



I'll be softening these off with a some mesh grilles, so it won't look too modern on first glance. I'm really pleased with how these turned out - it was definitely a risky option, but seems to have worked.



I also have side markers on the bus, but only the rear ones light up. But I like a bit of Christmas Tree action, so I got some bulb holders for the front and some new lenses all round, so we'll have lovely, lit side markers....









I also wanted to keep the full red American lenses at the back, but this meant I would need some rear indicator lights - we decided to use the reverse lights with amber bulbs to do this. Mine were a bit busted up, so I looked around for some replacements, and found some really lovely NOS ones, so they'll be my new indicators.





And finally on the lighting front, I love a single fog up front and I now needed a reverse light. So I searched around and found a couple of original Notek units - a yellow lens one for the front and a clear one for the reverse light. We'll be wiring the reverse light so it can be used manually with a switch on the dash, as well as automatically on reverse. That way it can double as a 'working light' if needed.





The bumpers aren't completed yet, so no pics of them installed. But I'm really keen to see how these look when they're on.

Certainly do not wish to dampen anything, but are those head lamps ok for the year and the MoT?
I seem to remember someone had an MoT issue on his 'led' TR6 and it made the classic car press.

I think the TR6 issue was with bulb replacement in existing units. Could be wrong. These units are ECE approved (and are different from the DOT approved units for America) so should be OK as long as they're properly height adjusted. I guess we'll see in a couple of weeks when it goes for its MOT

FFS bundle of fun for a so called hot rodder

I've run LED bulbs in my LHD 964 headlights with deflector tape on teh lenses ... no issues MOT wise .. and if it ever is an issue, so what, swap them over for the test.
