Holidays, a huge volume of retail work and the small issue of having to deal with a certain 993

had slowed progress on the E however a solid couple of weeks has seen us leap forward on the paintwork - all shell preparation is finished and the car is finally in high build primer and nearly ready for top coat.
The mixing of old and new panels and the letting in of fresh metal inevitably means there's a lot of work preparing the renovated shell for paint to ensure it's slab perfect.
The shell ended up looking like a patchwork quilt and all panels have been on and off countless times - the end result is superb with all levels and gaps remaining pin sharp...
One of the repaired doors took a whole day alone to prepare - the end results are worth it...
The car received a second coat of epoxy before a few coats of high build primer and now the car is looking wonderful both inside and out...
Hard to believe it from the pictures below but there's been 130 + hours of work put into the car since the epoxy etch coat in the photo left to the high build primer stage in the photo right...
The hard work on the shell is now behind us, over the next few weeks we'll apply sound pads, seam sealer and underseal followed by 3 top coats of Porsche Light Ivory - can't wait!

I'm pretty sure that the people I've used in the past reckon on 200+ hours for this sort of job to get a car really straight, so sounds like you're about right. The hard bit is actually finding people that are prepared to hand-block everything. There are hundreds of companies out there that talk the talk, but actually put out wavy work.
Can't wait to see it in colour now

We've followed your instructions to the letter Sir

- there's not a ripple to be seen and when all the panels are on the car looks like it's been carved from a solid lump of metal.
The quality of the work you put into the shell has meant that all filler work is micro thin and practically translucent in places - real quality
I think we'll end up putting in 220-230 hours into the paintwork, about the same as with repairing the shell - hopefully you'll approve of the end result.

Darren, getting very excited for you - this looks terrific! Looks like the team are really taking this seriously and enjoying it too. That's going to look fantastic when the paint's on....

Thanks for the comment although there's a stunning 2.2 being put together 'up north' that's currently set the quality bar very, very high - I'll be more than happy if I can reach that standard!

Looks superb
Well remember this stage on mine and the real pleasure of seeing a single colour for the whole shell, it's a massive physiological step forward

Wow. What an amazing thread. Just spent the best part of an hour starting from page one. Perfect way to start a Saturday morning whilst in bed with breakfast
I absolutely love watching true craftsmen at work. Looks like you've got the cream of the crop there!
