The loom looks good. But the proof will be when you try to use it.
So, when do we get to see it run

Remember to put a lambda sensor boss in your new heat exchanger before you bolt them on. Then you can get rid of the old ones (hint

)
But my SSI's look so nice in the box they came from the States via Germany in

Well Ian, if you can't bring yourself to weld a boss into brand new SSIs just pop them in to me next time you are down in Crewe

I'll take good care of them, honest

This post was supposed to be a picture of it running without a distributor... however do you notice anything missing?
After spending many joy filled hours fitting the loom and ECU to the car I tried to start it with the ECU controlling the EDIS6 unit. Well you've probably guessed by now it didn't start! It tried but I have a feeling it fired about 90 degrees BTDC which REALLY miffed (I didn't type miffed, guess the automatic net nanny cut in

) off the starter motor
I've checked the firing order and the paired cylinders, the VR (crank) sensor appears to work as when you pull it off it doesn't fire at all, so I need to sit and have think about what is wrong. I've tried it without the ECU control, so it should just run at 10 degrees fixed advance, but it does the same, so the problem is within the EDIS set up. I'm guessing my crank sensor to wheel relationship is wrong or my understanding of the wasted spark cylinder pairings is all to pot. I really need to look at which cylinder is firing with a strobe, but I on my own with the kids today, so that will have to wait.
My kids have been very patient with me today, so I best give them some time

Emily however was not very understanding when it fired a stab of flame from the exhaust, the bang is still echoing around my estate...
Back on it tonight. It will be something blindingly obvious I'm sure.
One bit of good news is that the ECU works, and I can talk to it with my abacus based laptop!

Good start Gary, shame it didn't burst ito life, but that doesn't matter.
Can you still run the car with the std ignition and with the EDIS running ? perhaps you can have a spare set of spark plugs andwith it running slow, see what fires when ? perhaps with it on the starter ?
I haven't worked the logic on the wasted spark yet, but yes, this could be the problem . Good luck.

Road to Meagsquirt EFI on a 2.4T - It runs on ECU ignition!!

Well done Gary, that's great news!
So what's the next step now??

Hi Barry, Next step is to finish some brackets, tidy some wires and off for a drive
Then panic about the remaining conversion to injection (like the hard bit..)

I think you have taken the biggest step already. You have fitted and got it running, if ignition only. Monitor everything carefully, make sure you are getting sensible feedback from the MAP, CHT, EGO, IAT and TPS. If this is all good, then the transition to fueling will be straight forward.
Congratulations - Top job.

Cheers Tim,
No sensors fitted yet, just wanted to get it started first

I do have the MAP connected to the original distributor take off, but currently the vacuum does not change when you blip the throttle, which suprised me. Looking in detail at the carb the vac take off appears to be above the butterflies so I guess that isn't that suprising... Need to investigate this further, I may be mistaken.
You can suck on the MAP line and see the shift on the gauge, so the sensor is working, just nothing changes at the engine. Weird.
