My 1975 Porsche 911S (Misunderstood by many, loved by few)
Here are a few pictures of my 1975 911 S 2.7.
The car was a US import which arrived in the Uk in December 1989. The UK owner was a complete fanatic and spent a huge amount of money (25K) getting the car to Concours standard. His fanatism probably went too far and there is interesting correspondance in the history file with Bruce Anderson, where the owner questioned Bruces damnation of the 2.7 models "weak engine", and a lovely 5 page reply from Bruce. Funnily relatively shortly after this there is a large bill for an engine rebuild from Bob Watson Bruce was probably right) Also Bob has a picture of my car on his wall!!.
Unfortunately the last two owners have scrimped a bit on the car, but with the detailed history file it has made it easy to assess what needs to be done and in some instances identify running problems that happen several years before. I am slowly working my way through the car fixing and replacing whatever I find.
The car is a narrow rear arch impact bumper car, pretty much the same shell as the 72T, with a very similar weight. with chrome trim. The engine has been built to euro spec, with hyd. tensioners and an aftermarket cooler. A nice touch is the Porsche option Momo steering wheel (designed by F Porsche) which i have not seen elsewhere.
The 74/75 S is quite misunderstood and a rare beast now with most of them being modified into turbos etc. They are extremly underated and pretty impressive performance 0-60 6.1secs. Previously to this I owned a 964 C2 in rubystone which had been modified to RS spec. The 75 is a much more entertaining drive for sure, and as with the early cars gives you immediate feedback as to how accomplished you are as a driver.
I love this 911 and definately there will be no back dating going on here..........well maybe a RSR 2.8. anybody got some piston, barrels and arches?

Much as I take the pi55 out of his colour schemes, it is one really nice car Especially now it can show it's face in public with a respectable non Baja Bug ride height! Need to lose the PCGB sticker in the screen though
Value for money just blows the early cars into the water. It is coming to Scotland next year isn't it? I'm thinking maybe we got ourselves a convoy

that is a stunning car indeed and a cracking colour combination. I always had a soft spot for gunmetal grey / oxblood hide.
Silver/cancan probably counts as a German interpretation but I so love it.
I seem to remember that David White also bought a silver ex US 1975 S so as he is based in Southend you might one day be able to meet up at Beaulieu or so? I had for a few years a 2.7 litre 165 bhp one and it was a great little screamer, really capable and thoroughly misunderstood. But I never got that under the 7 sec 0-62 mph
The 2.7S is a fast car indeed but if you get 6.1 seconds to 60mph out of yours then I'll eat my socks; the correct figures I found published by the factory are:
0-62mph: 7.6 sec
top speed: 140 mph/225 kmh
kerb weight 1075 kg
There is a test in Auto motor and sport of 1975 but that is currently well hidden somewhere in my archive.
Edit found it in Paul Frere's book: 0-62.5 mph: 8.5 sec (!)
0-99.5 mph: 20.3 sec
0-124 mph: 41.3 sec
1 k standing start: 28.7 sec
top speed: 139.8 mph
Now he did state that not many factory 2.7S were making 175 bhp so if your engine is rebuild than it should not struggle at all.... BTW, are you sure this engine isn't massaged up to 200 + BHP?
Best regards,
Bert

this is the problem the 75S transmission is set up with a ratio that means gear change happens around 60mph, hence my carefully noted rating of 0-60mph versus the euro 0-62mph (100Kph). I have collected lots of brochures, books etc on the subject and because of this there is a real variation. Trainspotters hat on...Autocar Aug 1974 quote 911S as 0-60 as 6.1, on the gear change chart it shows 2nd-3rd as 58mph, Classic Car march 74 6.1, then others are 7.2 -7.6. Just depends whether the test driver used the clutch
On earlier cars 2.4s the change happens at 63-64mph
In real terms this means nothing, as its the driveability that counts at the 2.7 (if the engine does not fall apart) is a lovely torquey engine with a great sound, and very driveable.
Don't worry your socks are safe, but if my 8 year old nephew comes around Autocar article is coming out
regards
Glenn
