Nurburgring 24 hour June 2007

Post by early_911 »

I've always fancied going to this as although Le Mans is my normal annual outing . . . the ring and touring cars (i.e. loads of porkers) has a certain attraction.

Anyone fancy a trip over there . . . camping and the like?

I go to the 'big' Le Mans religiously every year, but last year, driven mad again by the crowds and the predictable Audi win,
vowed to do the Nurby 24 instead in 2007...

I'm told it's much more of a casual festival atmosphere, and is obviously much less crowded.
And of course the racing is more interesting - more variety and less predictable results.

Put me down as a definite maybe!

I'm another very interested :)

only time I went to the big Le Mans was 1995 when Maclaren F1 GTR's debuted, it was ram packed then, just too many crowds, so gawd knows what it's like now.

Anyway here's an on board with one of the GTR's 8)

I've done the Oldtimers for 4/5 years and we always stay in Adenau at a hotel run by a biker called Eddie. Cheap, very clean, good food, small bar and right next to the Nordschleife where it crosses the main road.

I'd really recommend it. Having brain fade at the moment so don't remember the hotel name but Eddie's no. is (was?) +49 1776337154. It's the same hotel that the Minardi (!) Team used for the European GP.

And if you haven't done the Nordschleife it's superb. I've been round in a 1966 911, Lotus Elan, 1934 Talbot Alpine Rally works car................

Anyone speak German ..... here's a campsite (looking at it again i'm not 100% certain it is mind you), can't make head nor tail?

Does Eddie speak English? . . . . imagine it's booked up . . . understand it draws more people than Le mans.

It is a campsite according to http://www.nuerburgring.de/4_freizeitto ... x.html?L=1
On the occasion of the 24-h Race, when thousands of campers set up their tents around the legendary Nordschleif, camping sites, live music and a unique atmosphere pervade the "most beautiful racing course in the world".
here are the prices (I think):

Actually looking at the maps on the link above, the campsite is right outside the GP circuit (i.e. close) . . . . would be cool to be in the woods mind you.

Here's another campsite - 20kms away mind you and looks a bit :albino:

I'm still keen on this . . . so bouncing it up.

Perhaps on the way down . . take in Spa (perhaps stay the night there)?
