painted dash

Post by 512modulo »

hi all

the cars been fine today started ok, so it seems that it just doesnt like london traffic.

whilst polishing it in the glorious sun, ive noticed flecks of the exterior paint on the dash under the black,

just wondering if it would have originally been painted, body colour

the car is a 67 912 with five dial dash, did they still come with a painted dash in these years.?

thnaks for advice

im joining the club this week and will post pics of my new ride in due course,

painted dashes only on v early cars - 67 would have been black - yes you will see body colour underneath though - hell, what are you doing polishing inside the car

1972 914/6 GT replica - 2.7 - signal orange.

the car is 67 912 painted bahama yellow, the car is originally from california , its just strange that the top coat of black isnt very good and underneath is shiny paint . i mean it took no effort getting the black off.

thanks again

If the paint is that good under there then I would say some one has done it as an after thought rather than factory..

i was under the impression that all 60's cars had the the whole dashboard painted in the body colour. then the clock section was painted in the "crinkle" black paint - so as the black paint is wearing off we will all see the body colour coming thru..... with exception as mark said the very early 65's had a body colour painted dash as its finish.....
