911 rear popout rubber replacement

Post by MdR »

How is the weatherproofing rubber held into the popout frame?
Is it just held in by the profile of the rubber extrusion in the frame or is there some strange, spooky clamping arrangement that I can't see?
cheers

if this is the rubber for the quater rear window then it is a pain in the ass but I did mine for the 912ok. I did it in doors the heat helps you just have to look at how the old one came out it has a grrove that is sits in I do remember it taking ages to do. a small bit at a time. I think I also used a heat gun (paint stripper0 this helped the rubber soften to easy is in place but I also remeber it is easy to put the rubbing in wrong so look at it I am going to my other car in a bit if I remember I will have a quick look

did mine last week while I was having a break from stripping the paint, all seven layers of the stuff, still only one wing to go.
I found that the rubber goes into the grove if you first warm up the new rubber I put mine in the oven for a few minutes, and then use a silicon rubber lubricant, avaliable fron any plumbers merchants, dont use washing up liquid to much salt in the stuff. start in one place and just push it home working around the frame try not to stretch it.
