I have a problem with my tachometer when i start the engine the needle goes all the way round to eight thousand revs and stays there, is this easy
to sort out, any help would be appreciated.

hmmm sounds an odd one that. It must be the Taco as the cable can only rotate at a set speed ie of the engine. Sounds like you might have to find another see if you can borrow one to test it

is it maybe a loose wire? My oil temp guage started playing up - permanently at max temp, turned out one of the wires from the temp sender had come loose, may be wort having a look at the connections.

my tacho bounced constantly, it turned out to be a combination of a bad connection on one wire and incorrect points gap and timing. If there's no obvoiusly corroded wire/connector, it's worth taking a look at the points.
