It's been a long journey but finally starting to get things together now. All metal work is finished - all the old bits of biscuits tins,tin foil, paper and god knows what else has been removed, new front end from Trevors Hammer works was awesome, most patern parts were useless and had to be trashed and new parts fabricated from scratch - the body guys have done some amazing work and the gaps on the trial fittings look great. Now it goes into primer, one more trial fit and then paint.......
Meanwhile I am in conversation on the engine, but looks most likely like a VW Type 1 2160 based on a CB case and crank but this changes daily and may just end up with a rebuild of the original unit.
I think I'll keep the fuchs on it for the time being, although I think the BRM's look very cool as well as do painted, widened stock units, no caps and polished drums.
I am meeting the stitch up merchants on Sunday to go over the interior which will remain stock for now but with Simpson race harnesses fitted.
I am toying with the idea of driving the car back to the UK in Spring '07. It hits its' 50th "Birthday" then and I thought it would be a great way to celebrate by driving to 356 International meet in Barcelona then on to Stuttgart and finally on to the UK. At the moment it's just a dream but I reckon by driving across Saudi, ferry up to Cairo, ferry to Turkey then driving it could be done in a month.

It's not a cheap event, but the pictures of the last one in last months Registry magazine were incredible.

I could do with something to aim for with finishing my 356!
I have had two weeks soilid on it this month, so got lots done..
The meet sounds like it could be good...........
Rustbucket - that sounds like a god idea for a shakedown run!!
I'm planning on having mine on the road around this time - something to aim for
Bloody expensive but Sitges 'Barcelona on sea' is supposed to be really nice, if a little on the camp side , with loads of other places to stay for people on a budget.
Mate of mine goes there regularly - (swears hes straight)
