Which Shocks? (FRONT)

Hello all,

Can anyone advise me as to which inserts I need to buy to replace the front shocks please?

I have black struts (possibly Boge?) with no markings (that I can see yet).
The car is a 1970 911 coupe.

Ironically, back when I had boge struts I replaced the oil bath original style with green bilstein inserts and found them great. I have for years and years run poly bronze bushes

These days I run proper bilstein struts with raised spindles and custom valves inserts

The choice I think much depends on what driving you do, fast n furious or touring.

My ex hillclimb car has custom valves non adjustable Bilsteins, arranged by Bob Watson decades ago for the hills.
They are perfect and are run in green struts filled with antifreeze.

The car rides uk road surfaces well but 70 section tyres help a lot.
I used to use sticky 50 sections for the hill, much harder ride but great performance.

Imho compliance is key on the road but that can be a bit of a compromise for some.

Gary has zoomed across Europe on Bilsteins for years and his choice would be mine if I need to replace the current dampers.

Just as an aside, the torsion bars are the shock absorber, the inserts control the bars twist movement.

Remove the torsion bar spring and the damper will be fully compressed to the bump stop, and the suspension no longer exists.
The other way round and the torsion bar spring will occillate when it rides a road surface.

The car will be just a ordinary road driven car I imagine.
Ironically the link Ian mentioned, didn't give the Bilstein B6 I think it was, a great review. However as also mentioned, I guess it's pretty much down to what you want if of your car.
The research continues.

I’m old now and drive on the road far more sedately than ever before, but all manufacturers spend a lot of time finding a balance in cars ride and handling, and the Orem parts can be the best all rounder.

A tweaked 911 done carefully is a beauty.

My car rides really nice, better than either of my other Porsches

Just back from 2 days in North Wales to take in the sun.
Roads there are getting poor...

Ride of my Boxster felt like a boneshaker, the ride in the 911 would be really nice over the same terraine, both would do 34 mpg which shows how well i cruise nowadays.

My 2 Skodas ride even better, esp the Citigo !! (IMHO).

As said, a well sorted 911 is great and 50+ years ago technology.
