Registration transfer
Hello all, I’ve recently sold the cherished number plate that came on my 911 when I bought it 30 years ago, is there any way of telling if the replacement reg number was the original one when car first registered , thanks in advance, Jason.

Re: Registration transfer
Was it first registered in the UK, if not, then highly unlikely it will be the the original, try a google search on the number supplied and see if any old photos come up, or if the supplying dealer is still around, they may know?

Re: Registration transfer
If you write to DVLA, they are sometimes very good at providing such details, it all depends who opens the letter at there end.

Re: Registration transfer
As a matter of course, the number issued by DVLA will be the original for the car, unless the cherished transfer had taken place before it all became computerised.

Did you sort this?
If it’s a U.K. rhd 1968, it might be on the AFN log if you’re lucky. Can get you a copy of it which is worth having in the history anyway.

Re: Registration transfer
AFN log a lot cheaper than the Kardex. AFN log ‘may’ have the registration whereas the Kardex definitely will not. I’ll PM you.JA51ON W wrote:Hi, yes it is uk rhd 1968, how much does it cost to get a copy of the afn log? Thank,Jason.

First I've heard of "AFN log". What is it exactly?

Re: Registration transfer
AFN had a log for every rhd car they had come through their books. Small card that was filed. A few people have access to copies of them. I always get them and a Kardex if there is one, and put in the history.IanM wrote:First I've heard of "AFN log". What is it exactly?
I’ve attach an example but I’ve used it before to trace the original buyer and also discover the original number plate which is sometimes on the record (this example doesn’t have the number plate, but luckily already knew it, but some record do have it). Sometimes they will also have some spec or early history notes on there, such as I had one with a note saying £1,000 of serious damage only 1 year after purchase).
If anyone wants theirs just message me.

Re: Registration transfer
Sorry - a bit off the thread, but my 1936 Frazer Nash/BMW has an AFN log entry - so the process goes back a long way!
And the thrill I got when first seeing it turned to amazement when I realised it was initialled DSJ by the reg number. When writing his book - From Chain drive to Turbocharger, The AFN Story, Dennis Jenkinson (one of my heroes) went through the AFN archives reconciling each registration to its chassis archive entry.
