Is that illegal? What's DVLA view on that? Do you think there are many of those going around?

There are loads around. Some will be stolen cars that are restamped. Some will be stamped as something else to improve their value. Some are done for more innocent reasons.

The DVLA’s current view is:

Get a ‘Q’ registration number
You will not be able to keep your vehicle’s original registration number if one of the following applies:

it has fewer than 8 points
it has a second-hand or altered chassis, monocoque bodyshell or frame
there’s evidence that 2 vehicles have been welded together to form one (ie ‘cut and shut’)
964 C2 Targa. 205 1.6 GTi. Testarossa. Fisher Fury Fireblade. Motorhome. Motorbikes. Scooters. Pushbikes. Threadbare Saucony Peregrines. Dog. Human relations and friends. 97.5%-built house.

I'm looking for a pre-impact bumper 911S or other high-revving 911 to restore - please let me know if you see one.

Great hill to run.
Did it twice in my hot Impreza, what a track, what a car!

Hello all, I'm the original poster of this thread. I decided not to buy the original car in question as I couldn't be satisfied as to the identity.

I've since bought another 911 competition car and I'm planning on building it up this year with a view to doing some hillclimbs and circuit events next year. I'll start a new thread for that car.
