Question about VAT on an imported classic ...
.
Does anybody know :
- if a car was imported from the US & registered in the UK - so obviously the (5%) VAT was paid at that time - but then subsequently exported to the Netherlands, would VAT be payable again if the car came back to the UK ?

Re: Question about VAT on an imported classic ...
Hi Andy,
I would assume so, since HMRC will only look at the current transaction, ie a classic vehicle being imported from the EU.
Having said that, I'm definitely not an expert in the subject............

Thanks - information in your link seems to confirm Jonathan's thoughts:
"The UK considers vehicles that have been exported for over 12 months permanently exported ... the car will be treated as a fresh import during re-importation"
