Those holes have been drilled after it left the factory. I would weld them up

Thanks guys.
Someone said a catch tank but think they went the other side of the engine bay. Going to weld up as they are like a 5 pence piece.

Re: Resto thread for 119100008 69t
Hello all.
The car is in primer.
I need to start thinking about paint for a 69t.
I’ve been told a 69t was black inside the front boot area. I’m unsure if it’s a rough finish or a smooth Saturn black finish?
Can anyone help with what time of finish it is?
Pics are most welcome
Thanks Lee

Re: Resto thread for 119100008 69t
Can anyone help?
If I do the front trunk in underseal to mimic the correct type of finish my concern would be, it’s rubberised and not a solid finish for the inside trunk?
I’m thinking of having it painted Saturn black instead?
Anyone done this lately?
Thanks

Re: Resto thread for 119100008 69t
My 1970 car seemed to be original and it had a hard textured coating up to about the top of the battery box, and smooth above that. Everything was painted orange over the top.
I masked off the top and sprayed below with a hard textured stone chip then went over the top with orange.
Here's the original where I didn't have to strip and repaint.

Here's where I went over due to welding the battery box, not yet repainted orange.

Amd I'm pretty sure this is the product I used.

If the Granville is the product I used, it sets pretty hard and won't be soft or rubberised.

I thought it might be. Also, mine is a Karmann. It may have been done differently per the two factories.

Re: Resto thread for 119100008 69t
Here’s my car in current state.
After I stripped it down. I collected all the body parts I thought I needed for the metalwork.
It’s had major surgery. Jacking points, kidney bowls, front partition panel, fuel tank support panel, battery support panel, rear parcel shelf, scuttle panel, inner and outer sills. Heater tubes were in good condition.
Oh and new front floors, kept the rears.
So. I decided not to do a full restoration simply because of cost. I’m really pleased with the work so far. And can’t wait to try and refit some of the stuff back in the car in the following months.
Didn’t touch the front wings, rear wings or doors except for minor metalwork as were in good order.
It’s going to be good enough for me I’m sure. Can’t wait to see it in light ivory.

There's quite a few threads about this on the ESR forum.leedurrant73 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 13, 2023 4:21 pm
