O/T Japanese import vehicle delay registration advice

Looking to buy a new project.
Found a motorbike that is with a dealer, imported from Japan with no papers, just nova.
No log type book so this is out of my skill set.
They say the uk registration is just normal, but would need confirmation of build date etc from the manufacturer, in this case, Yamaha.

Any thoughts or experiences please?
Will need to pull the trigger this week on purchase.

What's the rush? Might it not be better to wait until one with all paperwork shows up – or get the dealer to sort it ahead of purschase?

Yes, my eyes are open to almost anything, but project bikes for £1000 or less are very very hard to find.
Need to strike when you find something interesting and good to look at AND have enough to do!

It would be worth contacting the DVLA. HMRC would have shared information on the bike with the DVLA for registration purposes.

The NOVA confirms that the VAT and duty have been accounted for correctly. If you know what custom agent who cleared the bike, they should have a copy of the Japanese Export Certificate, Bill of lading, Invoice for bike etc. However, with GDPR they may not be able to share that info with you.

Thank you for those details, helps a lot.
I have just found another similar bike which is UK registered, has MoT and much much more in new parts for just £400 more.
This 'new' bike is the current favorite!
At £400 it is worth the benefits of registration and parts.

Just bought the bike, fresh MoT and delivered to my door, hassle free so far!
I'll soon have dirty hands....

Japanese and only 23 years old.
50cc 2T and very very clean.
Cosmetic job, it all runs etc. So much lighter than I've battled with before.

Project bikes are very hard to find and twice as expensive as 2 years ago.

Agh - a disc valve ... that will help (maybe a new feature for you ?) ... had one on my 90cc GA2A Kawasaki ... 1971 !!

Yes, a few mini adventures for me, some new stuff.
But, 12V, CDI , lots of new bits and 12 months MoT all help too!

Drip feed 2T system is a bit modern too!

It is something different and light to handle and do. :)

Yes, close to the FSiE.
This is the JDM only Sport, not rare but only a few in the UK (for sale)
Seems there is a dealer in Dublin who sells a lot, so maybe popular over there. UK version of this bike had enclosed cahin cases and a 2 seater saddle and look a bit frumpy, the sport is better.

Fun bike, nothing full of adventure but this one has lots of new parts on it that i know build the costs very quickly.

Just looking to strip it, repaint as required and make it super tidy.

Fancied a Honda 50 bike, the one with the leg shields, but they are expensive and so it is with parts to restore.
High demand for them, so prob easier to sell when done.

Perfect YB1's fetch around £2400 so not much room to buy bits, but i hope this one will need few parts, just TLC.

I'm happy not to have to liase with the DVLA and all that.

You need to check out the prices of FS1E’s they go for stupid money nowadays which may be a good selling point if you mention that is its equivalent when coming to sell. Current 50cc mopeds are as flat as a pancake.
Lots of things you could do with them back in the day to get a good 60mph from them!

It was either the Fizzy, a Honda SS50 (5 speed!!) or a Gilera 50 Trials. The Suzuki AP50 was not so popular for some reason.
